It doesn't look sooo good. I mean; there's no kakihara, no razor blade shoe? What do you have left?

I have it on Dvd. I've seen the begininng of it, and it has that actor TEAH. The main actor in City of Lost Souls, the Brazilan one.

But the film itself looks very good. Got good style and things. Directed by the cineamtoghaper of Ichi the Killer and other Miike films. I'll give you my review when I get around to seeing it soon.

As this is a straight-to-video / DVD production, I have reservations.

Having said this, I know that this is an out-of-date prejudice and the film may be actually very entertaining. What I'm not going to do is raise my hopes as the chances of this prequel matching the kinetic, over-the-top originality of the first movie are less than zero.

I heard this was done by miike's production studio. People who've seen it says it doesn't even compare to miike's, however, it good in a cheesy kind of way.

on a related note there's a good rip of ichi the manga on bittorrent. its about 340megs in divx. Good quality and excellent subs. If any of you want it and are on a fast connect i'll probably be on sunday's chat.

I just got the manga last night, actually. And I'm working on getting the anime now....I'm pleasently surprised, the images are really clear and big. I think the manga is actually more brutal than the movie, if thats possible..

Yeah, I know. But I Kakihara was the "Ichi the killers" highlight!

Agreed. I'd go a step further, Kakihara is what made Ichi that much more intriguing. Not the character himself, but the twisted relationship between the two.

I got the anime and it works as an excellent companion piece or "prequel" to the actual film..great stuff...I disagree with the whole Kakihara thing...I mean he was cool, but it seemed like he was on screen for far longer than he needed to be in certain scenes....I think Ichi the Killer would have been alot better if it focused on the relationship between Ichi and Jijii moreso than from Kakiharas viewpoint...

I'll just chime in to say that as fucked-up and twisted of a character as Ichi was, Kakihara was who made the movie for me. He's easily the most sadomasochistic character ever put on film. I'd love to see an entire feature based soley on his character (and still played to perfection by Tadanobu Asano, of course...)
