I will never forget how much the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre disturbed me the first time I ever watched it. Still every bit as intense today, it gets my vote. Lisa and the Devil, Vampyres, and The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue (a.k.a. Let Sleeping Corpses Lie) would be my runner up choices.

I want to see Bad Ronald. Doesn't look like this one's headed to dvd anytime soon.

Quite a few awesome flicks released that year. Went with TCM of course. Runners-up: Ilsa, It's Alive, Let Sleeping Corpses Lie.

I had to go Texas Chainsaw, but I do have a soft spot for both Deranged and Messiah of Evil.

Texas any year. Violent even in its editing to the very last cut to black before the credits. This film was everything it was supposed to be. Most films cannot live to their intended purpose. Purely maniacal!

Did I mention that I like this film?

TCM,though there are several strong contenders.LISA AND THE DEVIL and VAMPYRES are two odd ones I've always liked.

Not sure how anyone could vote for anything else other than TCM. If they do, they should be kicked out :)

Although, I did like Let Sleeping Corpses Lie, but I mean c'mon, it ain't better than the saw!

TCM but Black Christmas would have been an easy second.

Yeah, same here. I've resigned to picking up one of the bootleg copies that will likely be available from some shady dealer at Comic Con this month. At least by buying it in person (instead of on E-bay), I can have them play it first and see what the quality is.

If you're going to pick up a bootleg, that's the safest way to do it. Now if only we had real conventions up here worth going to, I could do the same. I really hate buying bootlegs and rarely do so anymore. Only ever wound up with two quality boots from eBay: Dark Night of the Scarecrow and Don't Be Afraid of the Dark.

Can always count on you to vote for the underdogs. :) Cool movie actually. It wouldn't have been nearly as good had Cushing not starred in it.

Did they really hop in that movie?? I thought the hopping didn't come until an 80's movie (NOT Mr. Vampire, although that was the more famous one)

Voted for TCM, but if I could I would've probably picked Black Christmas.
And where's the love for Phantom of the Paradise?!

Some really good entries this year but nothing, NOTHING to compare to my favorite horror film of all time: THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE.

If Black Christmas was on the list it'd be my choice...easily. Wouldn't even have to look at the rest of the list. But it ain't so I'm voting for LET SLEEPING CORPSES LIE.

Black Christmas really should be on the list though.

Black Christmas is probably my no. 1 because of
the concept of the killer never being revealed on camera and never being identified when all had been said and done. Imagine if Clark had filmed the ending entirely different and it was revealed that Peter was the killer or something similar to that. Had the killer's face been shown and identity revealed, I don't think the film would have anywhere near the amount of impact it has today. People love that ending. The mystery is what scares the most and Clark was right for leaving it that way.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre follows closely in the no. 2 spot.

I think that for any newbie horror fan, Black Christmas (1974) and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) should be required viewing.
