I voted for Friday the 13th. I love the series and this one has some great kills. I love the axe to the face.

Damn Helly, you just had to make this tough on us! :) There are so many classic horror films in 1980 alone that it is almost impossible to pick just one. After tones of reasoning though, my pick is with The Shining. I am a Kubrick fan at heart, and the film is just so well done on all fronts that I really wouldn't feel right picking guilty pleasures like Friday the 13th or Prom Night over it.

Once again fine poll Helly, you still haven't got back to me on the marriage proposal yet though. :D

Gotta go with The Shining. Despite what King thinks of Kubrick's adaptation, it beats the crummy TV remake hands down. My second choice would be Maniac.

What about "The Fly", "The Thing," "Evil Dead 2," and "Dead Ringers"?

Where's "Hangar 18" ?. Only joking :). It was a hard pick, but I chose "The Changeling" because its scare scenes still give me goosebums no matter how many times I've seen it. -Like the scene with the boy in the well/bedroom looking up at the little girl; I know it's coming  and I still get a chill.

Good call Jeff, that one is definitely a 1980 cheese classic!
"And the Nightmare becomes a reality."

  13. The Fog left the bigest impression on me back in '80! Scared the living shizo out of a 7 year old me! Had to give props (and my VOTE) to Carpenter's Fog!

Me too. Superb movie - genuinely chilling.

Strangely, The Shining never clicked with me. Maybe I need to return to this classic to see if my opinion has changed....

The worst on the list, for me, is undoubtedly ANTHROPOPHAGOUS. A movie I didn't take too much a liking to. PROM NIGHT was also somewhat dull, and CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD, while it has it's moments, is overall a dreary experience.

Dressed To Kill got my vote, though I loved Terror Train. When is Terror Train coming to Region 1 DVD? By the way, you people can't be serious about The Shining, can you? That was a horrible film. It is an embarrassment to Kubrick. There is a reason that Stephen King redid this as a television miniseries. King knew it was awful!
