2011: A Space Odyssey is coming to 4K ultra very soon!:
Sold, though I still insist that Eyes Wide Shut is the Kubrick film most in need of a 4K remaster. The film has never looked good.
Sweet, I always considered the Blu-ray to be underwhelming as an early remaster on the format. Not too sure why it's so universally praised. Warner was still too pre-ocuppied with picking winners and losers with HD-DVD vs. Blu-ray and not so much on creating the best transfers themselves.
Warner's Kubricks seem to come very quickly to each new format so I expect to see The Shining soon too.
As I recall they used a new faster stock for low light, but was still grainy and flat. Additionally Kubrick died shortly after his first edit, so he may not have even dealt much with the lab work. Although his DP should have had an excellent idea where Kubrick was going and how to get there. But who knows how far Kubrick would have pressed the lab push it in the end. Overall it feels like it needed more polish.
Mark it down: October 30th!:
Hopefully this means The Shining isn't far behind. Wouldn't mind Eyes Wide Shut either.
