So many great ones. City of the Living Dead is my favorite Fulci. Prom Night gets better with age. Inferno is constantly rising in my Argento list. Maniac is ideal for what Lustig wanted.

But my vote goes to Friday the 13th, which is a perfect slasher film. Greatest set of woods captured. It's the one that got me interested in film in the first place.

Tough to choose just one, but I'll go with The Changeling.

Easily "Shining". It's long been a high water mark in horror for me.

Some great ones here but I had to go with Kubrick's THE SHINING. It's iconic.

The Shining for me too, but what's really interesting is how much better the 1980 list is, over the 2005 list.

Hard to choose between Friday the 13th and The Fog. I love revenge tales and although The Fog is probably a much better story, ended up going with Friday the 13th.

The Shining. Scared the crap out of me when I was a kid.

What a great year for horror films! The Fog, The Changeling, Inferno, City of the Living Dead, Motel Hell, and Alligator were all great movies released in 1980. My favorite though would also be the one I have watched the most & continue to watch every year: The Shining.

The Fog and The Changeling would be second & third on my top 3 of 1980.

The Shining. Amazing soundtrack which was a big problem with the production. Great performances thanks to Mr. Kubrick. Many iconic moments. Hell even the trailer is great, and it shows nothing (https://youtu.be/3b726feAhdU). The film still holds up today in spite of Mr. King's distast for it.

I can't even vote I'm so awestruck. I remember wanting to see Mother's Day at the drive-in and begging someone to take me to see the shining. My father took me when I was nine... didn't turn out well, but I guess he wanted me to stop begging to go to the movies.

Hard to believe all of those came out in the same year. Now we're lucky if we get one good one a year.

    So many great films.
I chose John Carpenter's The Fog. The Shining, Alligator and Humanoids from the Deep are all favorites too.

Excellent choices, but the Shining is one that I revisit many times a year.

Good Titles! FRIDAY THE 13TH for me. It was the one that started my then fascination of the *new* type of horror movies coming out with great special effects. Up until then all this kid knew were Universal, Godzilla, Hammer, AIP, ect.
Of course, like Halloween, it would be a year or more until I actually got to see the film.
