Great news about Alice. I remember that one being quite good though I struggle to remember much about it now.

I wonder what they're using for source elements for Alice, Sweet Alice. Warner claims they had to stop restoration work because they ran into complications. Then again, I wouldn't trust a major studio to pursue hunting for better elements for a film like this. I just don't think they looked hard enough. 88's end results should be interesting but I'm not expecting a miracle. I think this is one of those films that's had a checkered independent production history. Didn't the guy who directed not make another movie?

"We haven’t seen a new master for the film in decades, so thankfully 88 Films have restored a positive print, bumping the classic up to HD for the first time."

Alfred Sole also directed Tanya's Island and Pandemonium after Alice, Sweet Alice. Wrote a couple episodes of Friday the 13th: The Series and an Alfred Hitchcock Presents. But yes, most of his credits are as a production designer.

It doesn't look like 88 is including any of the extras from previous DVD editions of Alice, Sweet Alice. I forget which edition I have but there was commentary from Sole and alternate title sequences for it's release as "Holy Terror." Wasn't this one a public domain movie for many years? I remember it was always available on VHS in the same budget bins as Night of the Living Dead, House on Haunted Hill and other famous PD films.

Alice being one of my absolute favorite horror films, I was really hoping its HD debut would be with some substantial extras. I'm thrilled that a new master exists, and when I finally go region-free I will pick up the 88-Films version. Well, unless someone manages a good release over here before then.

There were a number of VHS releases(Video Treasures, Greatest Film Classics, Congress Video, etc.), including a double-bill with Psychomania, so I wouldn't doubt that it was or is in the public domain.

FYI the 88 release is all region, delicreep. I'm going to get it and hope that another label can do a true special edition release one day.

Note: If you haven't seen the movie, DO NOT WATCH THE RESTORATION VIDEO! The killer's identity is revealed almost immediately.

Cool. Thanks for the heads-up. I would have gone on presuming it was region locked.

From the video all I can say is WOW, compared to the unrestored it looks amazing, good work 88 films

Just on a side note blood harvest has been reviewed by the BBFC and the release will be uncut including all the footage missing from the previous DVD release.

It probably didn't. Their source for Alice Sweet Alice is a theatrical print, most likely printed on Eastman stock since in its unrestored footage has faded to the pinkish red colour that pretty much all Eastman stock film does as it deteriorates and fades over time. You have much less to work with since materials are already in a state of chemical breakdown so when restoring it your colour and luma range is much more limited and corrections made will bleed more into other colours. It won't ever be able to look how it should compared to it's original release unless a less-faded print shows up or a properly stored negative is found. If you've seen Garagehouse Pictures release of The Intruder (which they also provided a restoration demo for online) it's the exact same situation, but in both cases it looks like they've done a helluva job getting it as best they can given the materials.

Can anyone make out any of the blurred titles 88 have lined up for June? One of them looks like Amazonia aka White Slave. I'm gonna blow a gasket if it turns out to be that.

One of them is definitely Amazonia: The Catherine Miles Story (White Slave).

Amazon UK is running a sweet sale on a bunch of 88films titles right now. I grabbed The Long Hair of Death, Cold Blooded Beast, Mountaintop Motel Massacre, Happy Hell Night, and Just Before Dawn--less than $70 shipped through AmazonGlobal Priority, 2-4 business days.
