Am torn about which version of Don't Go In the Woods I should buy, the 88 Films or Vinegar Syndrome release. Both look like they have similar specs in terms of features and transfer. Perhaps one may have a higher bitrate? Any recommendations would be appreciated! :glasses:
In case anyone hasn't picked these up, yet...
Now to wait for Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers to drop!
I seem to remember someone saying 88Films Mother's Day was better than the US version, but is it a big difference?
The 88 Films Blu-ray has about 5+ gigs more space dedicated to the main movie on their encode, so they probably have the best transfer.
Good to know! I was wondering if something like that was gonna be the case. Didn't 88's release of Graduation Day also have a larger file size too? Not that it matters too much, since I decided to bite the bullet and bought both versions anyhow because of the features.
The 88 Films version of Don't Go...is also a little cheaper on amazon.ca which also helps
Rock Shock Pop reviews the 88 Films release of Don't Go in the Woods: http://www.rockshockpop.com/forums/content.php?4837-Don-t-Go-In-The-Woods-(88-Films)
I own both releases of Graduation Day also. I seem to remember that the encodes were basically almost identical in size, but they have vastly different extras between the releases.
Ordered Bogeyman for collection from HMV on Monday for £8.99
Just placed my pre-order for Zombie Holocaust & Don't Go in the Woods on amazon.ca. Can't wait!
This might help a bit also... It's not a comparison between those two, but shows the VG Final 2K transfer vs. their Blu-ray encode:
Those are uncompressed PNG files, and you can definitely see a fair amount of compression artifacts in the VG encode. Hover over the images to switch back and forth.
With the 88 Films Blu-ray having a good 5+ gigs of more space given to their encode of the film, those artifacts are probably drastically reduced.
It looks like some DNR was probably applied also.
The Boogeyman is down to £8.99 on Amazon.co.uk.
My pre-order already shipped, but they should still automatically match it, right?
Mine shipped already too.
Yes, they should automatically refund the price difference as the pre-order price guarantee.
My first order directly from 88 Films got to my door in a exactly week. My Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers and Boogeyman blu-rays shipped on March 10 and are still not here. I hate that there's no rhyme or reason to this shit.
Pretty sure they use Royal Mail, and the delivery times to the USA for that can range widely in my experience. Sometimes it can take just days, and other times weeks, or rarely even up to a couple of months.
who could have known that had I waited a month I could have saved that much on slaughterhouse.....
Ah well, boogeyman ordered
^^ if you wait on just about anything it'll go lower eventually. You win some and lose some.
Oh yeah... here's a couple of actual comparisons between the 88 Films & VS Blu-rays of Don't Go in the Woods:
...as expected, the 88 Films transfer is superior.
The grain looks more muted in the VS grabs, while the detail looks sharper in the 88 Films grabs. Yeah, I'd say the 88 Films transfer is the better one as well.
