Yeah, there were a couple of posts on the Blu-ray.com forum where some more comments were made on the differences:

    http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=10583252&postcount=665

    http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=10583296&postcount=666

VS really should have at least used a BD50 on their release, but it almost looks more like just a poor encode than simply a higher bit-rate difference on the 88 Films encode.

Hopefully the 88 Films Blu goes cheaper on Amazon UK soon... it looks like I'll double dip after all. :eek1:

Just finished watching The Boogeyman, 88 Films smashed it. The transfer is epic. Also included is a 17min incoherent interview/rant from Lomell.

A nice text interview with Suzanna Love in booklet form, would love to have seen her in a sit down interview, apparently still a looker now.

Okay so dumb question but I have never really fucked with imports out of fear that they wouldn't work or not arrive all together. That being said I did purchase the Beyond Reanimator uncut arrow release and it being region free worked fine reinforcing my urges to order more specificaly this line of 88 film blu rays. That was untillni read some forums reporting that some import blu rays even though region free have issues playing special features (arrows release of funhouse was specifically called out). If any of thats true are these 88 film release like that or will film and features play fine on a regular U.S. blu ray player.

it depends on your player, for example, Panasonic machines usually have pal & ntsc playback capabilities, meaning these discs play fine on these machines.

Amazon should remove the VAT for O/S orders, so make sure to do a dummy order to see what it will be before discounting them.

That happens on certain players with standard definition PAL content. However, I'm assuming Arrow's Beyond Re-Animator is a DVD (standard definition) and I'm guessing that is PAL. So if that disc works fine on your blu-ray player, I don't think you'll have any issues.

Regarding 88Films specifically, I can verify that The Last Horror Film and Slaughterhouse do not have any PAL content. So both of these and all extras should work on every US blu-ray player, regardless of whether or not they support PAL.

I'm pretty sure all of the Region-Free titles will be free of problematic PAL or 1080/50i content. 88 Films does have a growing number of titles that are supposed to be Region-B locked:

    American Ninja 1-4
    Scalps
    X-Ray
    Anthropophagous
    Blastfighter
    Dead of Winter
    Zombi Holocaust
    Burial Ground
    Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers
    Bloody Birthday
    Two Moon Junction

So, to follow up. I was charged when it shipped, and then refunded the difference after the street date. But I was charged a foreign transaction fee on both the initial charge and the refund. It's only 11 cents, but still... so fucking stupid.

It's weird, I never get charged foreign transaction fees on in-stock merchandise. It only applies to pre-orders. I wonder why?

Probably because pre-orders go through as GBP currency. In-stock stuff you can get to go through as USD currency.

I'm sure it won't take much to top the Code Red Blu-ray... which just shoved two separate ratios of the film on a single-layer.

Yeah, no shit. This will no doubt trump Code Red's release so I'll be double dipping. Love this film.

I have the Code Red Blu-ray, and while it isn't perfect, I don't enjoy this one enough to upgrade...

    From Facebook:

"Sad news - the director of the crazy 3D slasher SILENT MADNESS, Simon Nuchtern, tells us that the company that held his film went out of business and the original negative, and prints, have been destroyed.

We were, of course, enquiring about leasing the movie. So we are putting it out there - anybody know if a 35mm print has survived? Let us know!

We can't promise we can get this license, of course, but it would be our worthwhile duty to connect anyone holding a print of this film with its director. Perhaps we can still save its existence..."

I REALLY hope they can find an uncut print of the movie.
It really pisses me of, when they burn negatives of these old cult movies...

I don't remember this one being particularly entertaining, and I can nearly always find something to enjoy in a slasher, but it's always sad when film elements are lost.

Glad that I kept the DVD-R of the fully uncut version.
You can get it on Cinemageddon.

I´m just sad that we won´t get a chance to see it in the original 2.35:1 ratio and 3D :(
Hope someone can help out with a print.

Edit: Seems like someone on FB, knows about a collector in the US that owns a 35mm print.
88films have gotten the e-mail adress to the owner, so let´s hope they can make a deal :)
