To be fair, some grabs do show extra info on the sides (like the one with the hunters returning with their captive), but others show a significant loss on all four sides, including the presentation of Audray to the village, the sacrifice of the unfaithful woman, Audray brandishing the axe, and the gathering of the tribe gathered around the bonfire.
OK, so some might be slightly more cropped, but it's still minimal and who watches the sides of a movie anyway - your focus is usually drawn to whats mainly inside the frame, and more often then not in the centre or left or right of centre, and in the caps you posted specifically is on the bonfire and the darkness on the sides you're not gonna miss nor the asses of the few tribe members. More info in the frame doesn't always mean it's correct or an accurate representation of the intended framing (films shot open matte vs matted for theatrical for example). Who knows the exact case here, but to me the Blu-ray looks like it's framed how it should be in its theatrical presentation.
I admit that 88 Films often does not impress us with transfers. Honestly though, I don't think this Amazonia release is really going to bother me much. I have never even seen the film, but do have a pre-order with Amazon UK. It's a fair price I have locked in.
If you want to try before you buy 'nightmare beach' is currently on amazon prime. Glad I watched here, bloody awful, don't want to sit through this piece of trash again!
Sorry, it must only be available the UK then, I thought small movies like these were on all amazon platforms, guess not.
‘Bloody awful’ may be a bit harsh, but it is a rather flat affair that never hits any high notes. The ending in particular felt like they were just tired of shooting and wanted to wrap it up quickly.
To each their own I suppose, but it is one of the worst things I've seen in a very long time, I struggled to get through to the end, it really had no redeemable qualities. I think bloody awful was quite refrained!
What I meant was, I’ve seen movies that are technically worse. I remember it as awfully mediocre and suspense-free. More of a dud than a catastrophe.
Looking forward to seeing this again. Got an Amazon shipping notice the other day so it should be arriving soon.

Glad this turned out to be a good release, but I believe Ruggero Deodato is alive as he is scheduled to be at Chiller Theatre in NJ this October.
