Akira Kurosawa turns 100

    Or at least his corpse does (hey, I had to make this a horror-themed reference somehow, right?).

    Yes, today (March 23rd) would have been Akira Kurosawa's 100th birthday. I know Turner Classic Movies is showing a whole boatload of his films today. And later tonight, my film forum will be showing Stray Dog.

    So have some sake and pop in a samurai epic tonight!

    So we got in the Criterion AK100 Kurosawa box set at my work a couple months ago. You have no idea how hard it was to resist dumping half a paycheck on that thing.

    that AK100 box is pretty bad ass, but the quality of the supplements on criterion's standard editions of so many of those movies makes them more or less indispensable, as far as i'm concerned. I'd love to have it, but about the only thing it would save me from picking up would be the kurosawa eclipse series'. i'd still need copies of everything else.
