Netflix streaming is having another purge on 10/01/15. See Variety article for details.

I wish I would have noticed this sooner. I have more than 20 titles expiring, at least a dozen titles that I would have liked to have seen. No way I'll get more than 5 in. These purges piss me off and reinforce why I've been hoarding DVD and Blu-ray releases. I'm not a fan of Netflix streaming. My wife and kids rely heavily on it but it doesn't suit my needs. I've used it less than 20 times for myself so far this year. But these purges make it even less useful for me.

Most of the movies they "purge" will be back within 6 months. As far as I'm concerned, if I have something in my queue that has been sitting there for more than a week, chances are I'll never get to it anyways. I'm more annoyed at the films that will never appear on Netflix in the first place.

When I first started getting Netflix I filled the queue up to about 70 titles. Well once a few years had passed and some of the titles still sat there unwatched I did my own "purge." I keep the list to about 20 titles now.

    I have 2 expiring 9/26 and 43 expiring 10/1!

Guess I'd better be watching some NetFlix over the next week.

I read somewhere, probably on AVClub, that most of these titles will be going over to Hulu

Of the hundreds of titles I have in my Queue, I will lose a couple dozen of them--but these have been in there for months, and they will probably come back at some point.

If that's true then it doesn't affect me in the slightest as I already supplement my viewing of Netflix with Hulu. If you don't have Hulu already then you're crazy, particularly if you're a fan of Criterion.

Is that being reported or is that just a guess? The Variety article makes it sound like its highly unlikely these titles will return. The titles lost in the 2012 purge didn't return.

Better. It's from experience. While I'm sure some may be gone for forever (or at least for a long while), the vast majority seem to always come back after a few months to a year.

Haven't watched a movie on Netflix in ages. They don't have anything I wanna see that I haven't seen already on cable or from what I personally own. I use Netflix for mostly their original series and some documentaries. which is great. Stuff that nobody has except them. Besides I rather watch a movie on Blu-ray any day. Netflix just can't compare in quality. And my download is excellent so that's not a problem. Over a 100Mbps is more than adequate to handle ANY stream service.

P.S. - I use my friends account anyway in a trade for other things. Even my Amazon Prime. Never watched a movie on that service to this date.

They recently got rid of Bubble Guppies on Netflix Canada, my daughters favorite show. Screw World War Z, I want them to bring back Bubble Guppies!

So you are talking out your ass. Until Netflix renews their deal with Epix all of these titles will be removed from the service forever. This isn't the random disappearing/reappearing that happens regularly. The same thing happened in 2012 when the Starz deal expired. I'm surprised your "experience" has taught you that.

Lol. At 41, I'm too old for these shenanigans any more. They've worn me down.

So they've got a lot of Criterion on Hulu? Thanks for the heads-up. I might have to look in to that. Aside from their original series, Netflix Streaming is pretty lacking in titles that interest me.

Yeah, they have a ridiculous amount of titles, over 800, and many may not ever be released on disc. I can't say much about the rest of their movie selection, but Criterion alone is worth the price of admission (and I mostly use it to keep up on recent TV episodes.)
