People were actually bitching about the color of the case it came in and they caved. Lame.

I'm curious about this film now. Depending on the price I might get this.

Dolph from Midnight Legacy stated on another forum that the Amazon listing won't be active until the disc is actually released. He didn't see the point in having a preorder option available. I don't believe the Amazon listing is active yet.

Normally pre-orders serve an important function, i.e., they give the label some clue as to how many copies they need to press. However, since Midnight Legacy seems hell-bent on doing this as a single run, 30,000 unit pressing, offering it up for pre-order isn't as critical because they've already decided how many units they're going to offer.

That being said, the whole way they're going about doing this is simply bizarre. They didn't announce the project until the disc was almost through authoring, then they hastily set a release date that was just two weeks away, a release date that they have now missed (after Dolph criticized other companies for delays) and which has not been replaced by a new date, now the lack of pre-orders, etc, etc, etc.

There is a vocal crowd over at AVManiacs who feel that this is a bootleg release of some kind. I don't believe it is, based on what I've seen, but the weird way that ML has been going about everything doesn't help their case.

I really have to wonder if they're actually going to press that many copies in the initial manufacturing. 30,000 is a huge amount for such a little known film as this and it's going to take years to sell out if there really will be that many floating around.

It would seem more likely that they'd do a far smaller 1st pressing, with the option of later repressings topping off at 30,000.

    I'm not saying that's what they're really going to do...but 30,000? Geez.

Officially their line is that they're going to press them in a single run, but if they're smart they'll do something along the lines of what you suggest, Katatonia. If.

I can't claim to be an expert on the business of film distribution, but after writing for this site for ten years, working for two separate producer's reps and having several other short term distribution gigs, I think I know enough to say that pressing 30,000 copies of this movie all at once is complete madness. There simply isn't the demand for it. Movies of this caliber often don't sell more than a few thousand copies nowadays, even on standard def. Code Red can't even sell a thousand units (pretty much the smallest pressing you can get) of many of their titles. Now these guys come along, after having burned bridges that the other genre company folks haven't, and expect to sell 30,000 units of an ultra niche title on a format that hasn't reached full market saturation, with a high MSRP in the middle of a terrible economy? Yeah right.
