While perusing Sinister Cinema I discovered that they're selling DVDs of FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE! I thought it a bit strange because I could swear that it was owned by Warner but then I checked the copyright office's site and found that it isn't listed. Could it be that this movie is public domain?

Oh, I would KILL for a DVD of that. I made one myself, from my VHS, but it's just not the same, y'know? If nothing else, I liked the menu image I made for it.

I had crappy menu software at the time so I made do with what I had, basically. :D

I'd say it's at least Brentwood quality...

Now Retromedia is releasing it on DVD. Is this good news or bad? We'll have to see. Their DEATHMASTER wasn't bad. Their other titles? Not so much.

I would have loved the release to be by anyone but Retromedia, still, it could have been worse, could have been Madacy.

I truly hope the quality is okay, been waiting on this one for ages.

What's wrong with Madacy? I have quite a number of their titles and they're all pretty damned good quality for budget DVD's. Hell, they even include chapter inserts and have motion menus!

They were also one of the few (perhaps only) to release a budget release of The Last Man on Earth in the correct widescreen ratio, long before the MGM disc came around.

IMy first & last run in with Madacy was the W.C Fields shorts, the picture & sound quality was atrocious.

Virtually every DVD studio has a few titles that are crappy. I don't think I'd really judge one on a single title. For the most part, from my experience Madacy are a great budget company. They've even released before which have had commentaries.

well after doing a few searches on google for the name madacy, it's nearly all negative.

LIke you say, you cannot judge a company over 1 crap title, but it seems to me there is definatley more than 1 crap title they have released.

I'll definately be staying clear of them, but that is just me - each to his/her own.

I noticed on the Fangoria website that FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE is slated for release on DVD.

Just coming in to thank you guys for the recommendations. I watched Torture Garden awhile back and liked it a lot. Burgess Meredith was something to see in that one. It took ages for The House That Dripped Blood to get here, but I finally was able to watch it and I loved it, loved it, loved it. I had a vague memory of watching it way, way back in the day, but it was mostly all new to me. The movie was pure horror delight, plain and simple. I especially loved the story with the Rhoda look-alike. She was awesome. I hope more of these hit DVD soon.

    Oh, excellent!

I'm so glad you loved it! Just reading your enthusiastic reply makes me want to watch it again, really. I was fairly certain I'd seen it a loooong time ago myself, but the memory is so thoughtful sometimes, making me forget nearly all of a movie I saw twenty years ago so that I can enjoy it anew on superior DVD at a later date.
