I never did get it to work on my TV. Google Play wouldn't allow me to cast it to the TV, it only works on Roku devices. Wasn't about to watch it on my phone, so I gave up.

I went ahead and blind-bought the blu-ray since it was so cheap. DeepDiscount sent me a $5 coupon, so I used it on that and Sevein's Beyond The Darkness for $26 shipped.

Got it today at Walmart and it wasn't that bad I liked it better than the remake. I rank it 3rd best in the amityville series behind the first 2 films I like. I am really disappointed though we didn't get the original R rated version or atleast the deleted footage from it.

Did you end up trying a HDMI from laptop to tv? That would work.

Yeah, it probably would. I'm pretty lazy when it comes to messing with cables and stuff.

I just got the Blu-ray now, will probably watch it tonight.

Apparently it was supposed to come with a slipcover, but LionsGate had them all removed and reprinted the artwork for the entire run to purge Harvey Weinstein's name and the Weinstein Company logo from it. Bob Weinstein's name is still there though.

Yeah that would have worked for you. It's the only way I've been able to do it. Casting just seems more complicated as I can never get it to work. Sometimes there's a little fiddling with HDMI but once it's set up you're good.

This must have struck me in the right mood, because I really dug it. Let's be honest, the Amityville series isn't a great one, so the bar is low. This just might be the best one since Amityville II in 1982 (although Evil Escapes is a huge guilty pleasure).

Some of the family drama was a little on the dry side, but it did have a fun side to balance things out. I enjoyed the more meta elements, like the kids sneaking into the house at 3:15AM to watch the original movie at the exact time of the murders. I also chuckled that they didn't even try to hide the palm trees during the school scenes.

I normally find Bella Thorne extremely obnoxious, but I thought she was terrific here as the angsty daughter with a sweet side. It certainly brought to mind A Haunting In Connecticut, and it's just another PG-13 haunted house movie, but with that in mind it's one of the better ones.

    I'm happy with my purchase.

The mask appears in the blu-ray version, but only for about 5 seconds. Thomas Mann's character is wearing it when they sneak into the Amityville house and watch the 1979 movie. There's a jump scare when he scares Belle with it.

Is it the same mask? I thought it looked different.

    Definitely a different mask.

Yeah that's what I thought. I figured the TOTS mask had something to do with a manifestation of Jody appearing in the film. I mean considering it's a different mask it definitely suggests there was something else.

I'd guess so. When I initially saw the mask in the movie my first thought was that it may of been the seed to a gag involving TOTS incarnation in some way that was cut. But I'd inagine that the TOTS mask was based on a makeup or FX test early in production that was ultimately (and sadly) not used.

I was leaning towards a cut scene but you may be right about an unused fx piece. I'm very curious to know either way.
