Break out your pajamas -- Amy Holden Jones' THE SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE (1982) is getting bumped to blu by Scream Factory! High school senior Trish is hosting a sleepover while her parents are away, inviting the girls basketball team for a night of pot smoking, boy gossip, and power drill dismemberment. You see, an escaped serial killer in a creep van is on the prowl, and Trish's little shindig sounds the perfect place to resume old habits -- like eye-gouging, head chopping, and, of course, drilling, drilling, and more drilling. No pizza deliveryman is safe! Written by famed feminist Rita Mae Brown as a parody of the then-exploding slasher trend, it was filmed by director Jones and producer Roger Corman as a straight teenkill pic, resulting in a fast-paced, bloody, frequently hilarious romp that's now properly regarded as a classic of its type. "She drinks too much milk."

Upgrading from their previous standard DVD release, finalized specs haven't been announced, but I imagine they'll emulate the supplements from the earlier disc, including a director & cast commentary track, a fun making-of featurette (including a visit to the original house!), trailers and more. This is one party not to miss.

And... still not even a standard DVD update / upgrade for Sorority House Massacre II and Hard to Die?

    Boo!

    Extras include:

    - New interview with actor Rigg Kennedy
    - Audio commentary by Jones, Villela and Deliso
    - “Sleepless Nights: The Making of THE SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE”
    - Theatrical trailer

Not sure if "Sleepless Nights" will be the full featurette on all three films, or just the segment on the first film.

    Beautiful goddamn cover.

    But...

Does it have much to do with the movie?

I couldn't tell you. It seems like each release has been eventually getting a tape or CD counterpart, but how that's determined, I have no idea.

Try emailing Spencer...dude is pretty prompt and polite.

According to a review, the Sleepless Nights doc on the blu-ray clocks in at only 23 minutes. So it's only the segment on the first film. :(

Kind of a shame to break them up, because all three segments play extremely well together.

"Shout Factory has...upgraded the first film to Blu-ray in a new 1080p24 MPEG-4 AVC 1.78:1 encode mastered from the original camera negative. I haven't seen the older transfer, but the Blu-ray has a very "theatrical" feel about it with a clean colorful image and a haze of grain evident in the darker areas of the frame without being overwhelming."

Really? Because that seems positive. And this is the first time the movie has ever been remastered from the OCN, so it's obviously going to look better than the old DVD because this is obviously the best transfer currently out there.

I've been reading some very harsh reviews of this film of late, although it's a favorite of mine when I was a pre-teen when it came out.

I have heard speculation that the husband had alot of input in this film and he didn't get due credit.

Uh, glance above your post. :D

I've seen some releases get multiple reviews on DVDTalk, and the ratings can vary widely between the different reviewers.

But... the reviewer gives it three and a half out of 4 stars here. It seems like a mostly positive review to me. What's your concern from that review?

Yeah I picked this up last week. It's most definitely an improvement over the DVD, I watched it over the weekend and directly compared the two. It looks good, but it's also a low budget film from the early 1980s so you can't expect too much. For what it is, it's a solid upgrade.

And yeah ronnie, where in the review did they seem to not like the transfer? Seemed like a mostly positive review.
