Meat's on the menu when Scream Factory serve up Antonia Bird's cannibal classic RAVENOUS (1999) on Blu-Ray! Banished to the remote Fort Spencer for an act of cowardice during the Mexican-American War, Captain Boyd soon finds himself investigating a traveler's tale of starvation on the trail. However, as his team gets further from camp, legends of the flesh-eating Wendigo resurface and he realizes they may be getting lured away for a purpose... A twisty, surprising, darkly funny studio effort from the mostly-terrible '90s, RAVENOUS flopped at the box office and never really found its proper audience -- I caught it opening weekend with my friend Lucas, and we were the only ones in the theater! Let's hope Shout Factory's reissue finally elevates its status as one of the essentials from a decade without a surplus of them. While supplements haven't been announced, Fox's early DVD release had a few commentaries, deleted scenes and some other goodies; at the very least, let's hope they're ported!

I watched my DVD of this the other day and had forgotten it was not anamorphic. What a mess! Anyway I was surprised that my son actually enjoyed this offbeat movie - one of my favorites.

Good news.A great shame that director Antonia Bird passed away a few months ago.

Used stores and pawn shops will soon be full of the old dvds. Good to see all the features ported over for a change. It seems I have to keep 3-4 dvds for every one I can get rid of when upgrading to blu.:(
Too bad the dvd is almost worthless already.

I saw this recently on Netflix after having not seen it in almost a decade. I loved it even more the second time around. I also found it genuinely disturbing, partly due to the unconventional musical score.

So glad that this film has finally achieved cult status and that Shout brought it to Blu. I'll definitely be picking this up soon.

This film always inspires me to eat copious amount of meat cooked rare after watching. Headed straight for the steakhouse after first watching it in theaters.

For some strange reason, even though I REALLY enjoyed the movie, I only saw it one time back when it came out on DVD.
Been 15 years now!! Felt like yeasterday though...
Gotta give this another spin. I have a feeling I will enjoy it even more these days ;)

And yes, the soundtrack. I can still remember how weird it was :D

WTF? How the hell did they screw this up?! It's a modern film and didn't have enough time to degrade. The HD rip up on Netflix looks better than this!

    What the hell????

What is this mess? Fuzzy image and video noise? Did they make this transfer from a bad cable recording??

Seriously, Shout/Scream is beginning to drop the ball on some of their later releases.

I was looking forward to Ravenous. With this and the Nosferatu transfer, Scream really needs to pull their finger out.

Geez, Shout really needs to put some serious quality control into some of these transfers. I think I'll just stick with the old DVD...at least until this goes much cheaper.

Maybe a UK studio will license and release it. I doubt they could do any worse :eek2:

I switched to the BFI Nosferatu release, but there's no alternative for this, at least at the moment. The old dvd is non-anamorphic. Those captures look really disappointing, but it HAS to be better than the dvd. I'll keep my pre-order, although I'm really bummed out. Nosferatu and Ravenous are two films that I've loved for a long time, and have waited for a long time to see on BD. For Scream to botch both releases, one after another, just sucks.

I was curious about this title, haven't seen it yet, but looks like I might as well buy the cheap region 2 dvd, it's anamorphic and has the same features

Fox licensed BTILC to Arrow so there's always a chance that they could get this too. Shame Shout messed up the master they were given.
