Desecration is pretty good, but certainly not great or anything. I haven't watched the old DVD in years, but the film is quite low budget. If you didn't like Horror however, I would proceed with caution.

On the heels of the Massacre Video announcement, yesterday, it appears DiabolikDVD has gotten word that the Code Red / Kino reissue of Nightmare(s in a Damaged Brain) has been cancelled.

New Dark Force release: GOD'S BLOODY ACRE/SO SAD ABOUT GLORIA

Yep, because extensive DNR is always a good selling point. o_O

    But, but... FREE SHIPPING!!! :D

I'm vaguely interested, but I can't tell if they're being upfront and serious about it or just joking for some unknown reason. Are they even sure they know what "DNR" is exactly??

I have the old DVD (actually both Code Red releases of God's Bloody Acre), but if it's just going to look like wax — and given Dark Force's spotty release record, I wouldn't doubt it — I'll definitely wait on some reviews and screenshots.

Will it be going wide retail like their other Drive-In doubles? Choas / Basement, etc.

    I'd pay $15-$20, but $28 ain't happening.

Probably not. They apparently don't even have a retail distribution deal for newer releases now.

What the Hell kind of scanner is he using if he needs DNR? Isn't DNR something you apply to cover up ugly digital noise produced by your lousy old scanner? Or did he work off an existing and outdated master, thinking he could magically fix it with DNR?

I did actually buy a previous "Retro Drive-In double feature" - The House That Vanished & The Eerie Midnight Horror Show. I specifically bought this for The House That Vanished. I should have waited for reviews or at least feedback from other collectors. The original description write-up claimed that The House That Vanished had extensive color correction. Of course that bullshit claim has long since been taken down. If that wasn't bad enough, the film is cut. Since the reality of the "quality" of this release has become common knowledge, I was in no hurry to watch it and finally started it earlier this week.

This is my first viewing ever of The House That Vanished. This is hands down one of the worst Blu-ray discs I have ever purchased. Audio and video quality are both complete garbage. Add that to the cut footage and this was an expensive coaster. I paid $26.95 at the time.

As I mentioned above, the ridiculous claim of "extensive color correction" is long gone. Here is what you will currently find on the Dark Force website regarding The House That Vanished:

THIS IS THE US THEATRICAL R-RATED VERSION THAT PLAYED THE DRIVE-INS
IT IS NOT THE BRITISH VERSION WHICH IS ABOUT 9 MINUTES LONGER CONTAINING A STRANGULATION SCENE AND LOVE MAKING SCENE THAT WAS CUT FROM THE US VERSION-THIS VERSION DOES CONTAIN NUDITY, VIOLENCE AND GORE. IT IS MORE ACCURATE FOR THE RETRO DRIVE-IN SERIES DUE TO IT ACTUALLY BEING THE VERSION THAT PLAYED ALONG SIDE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT AND DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT.

All that is going to vanish is your money. Never again will I buy any of these drive-in double features from Dark Force.

Their reply to that is here: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=15174057&postcount=1965

...which seems to be just a tad hypocritical a response if anyone has seen their Blu-ray transfers of The House that Vanished and Don't Look in the Basement before. We're talk

I took the plunge on God's Bloody Acre. I don't have any of the previous DVD releases for comparison, but after skimming through it, whatever "extensive DNR" was applied to the transfer seems to have been applied with a surprising amount of restraint and subtlety. Not at all the Krekel-esque waxfest you would have expected after reading the Dark Force write-up. Color fluctuates fairly regularly and there are still plenty of emulsion scratches and other element issues that weren't corrected. Audio is lossless but a bit rough around the edges. All and all, very watchable, and mostly looks and sounds like an old grindhouse film print.

The film element for So Sad About Gloria is in much better shape than God's Bloody Acre, all around, but otherwise my comments above can largely be echoed here as well. Again, I don't have the previous DVD releases for comparison's sake, but for the most part, these both look like fairly good, filmlike, transfers of less than optimal film elements. Whatever restoration efforts took place do not appear to have been done with a heavy hand.

Does God's Bloody Acre look as bad as The House That Vanished? I have that Dark Force double feature and am not happy with it at all.

A little better, IMO. THtV has these weird, almost strobelike, patches of discoloration that are really prevalent throughout the film. The color fluctuations in GBA seem to affect a greater percentage of the frame, but are more uniform and less distracting. GBA also seemed to have fewer dropouts / splices to contend with.

Thanks for the honest feedback. I may pick up the GBA double feature eventually, but not at the current price point.
