I bought the SF blu-ray for 16 bucks last week and have never seen the movie. Reading through the comments here I’m more inclined to see it now. Been wanting to for years but never got around to it.

Totally agree. I read this book years ago and then rented the movie and was extremely disappointed. I seem to remember the "run down" interior of the house looked like someone painted "age" on the walls of a poorly designed set. It's really a shame because it had such a great cast, and I believe a couple in some of their final roles.

Yup. The other thing you have nowadays is being able to make a SERIES of movies that are based on a novel or series of novels. Unheard of back in the 80s. So I reiterate my 2013 comment that this is a movie ripe for remaking, and doing it in more than one movie if necessary (like they're doing with It)

(Just as long as it isn’t a TV miniseries directed by Mick Garris.)
