I want to pick up a couple more Sony Titles before the Deep discount sale ends.

I can't seem to find any topics on the following titles. Any opinion on these?

A Study in Terror is a precursor to Bob Clark's Murder by Decree in that it is the story of Sherlock Holmes investigating the Jack the Ripper murders. However it is not as serious or realistic - instead it is a fun, entertaining and colorful movie in the style of an energetic Hammer film. Worth getting.

I am not much of a fan of slasher films but I actually enjoyed Out of the Dark as a stylish, amusing film. Good cast, good direction, very 80s. Worth seeing but maybe not purchasing.

Have not seen the other two.

I somehow missed this thread until now...

Shadow of the Hawk comes recommended though. It's very 70's, but has a great style.

It's one of the Sony MOD's that has a lower bit-rate for some reason. The 16x9 transfer looks pretty good though.

Out Of The Dark is getting a pressed DVD release through Mill Creek, crammed on a 10-movie set called Shadow Stalkers.

What's it like? Never seen it, Strange selection of films a lot are on blu, which seems pretty strange adding them here, they normally have obscure titles albeit in vhs quality prints on these packs.

Haven't seen it in a while, but from what I remember it's more late-nite softcore thriller than slasher movie. Still, it's interesting that it's included here. Certainly a better option than a DVD-R. Pretty sure Mill Creek gets their transfers from Sony, so it should be the same transfer as their DVD-R release.

Would love a decent version of Funeral Home, but that will probably be another VHS quality version.

This is probably the same master Sony used for their MOD release, but I have a feeling the trade off is going to be pressed disc for increased compression, since they're cramming 3-4 films per disc.

I'd hold out to see if a Blu-Ray release might materialize, either through Mill Creek in the US or through Powerhouse / Indicator in the UK. The film is available in HD on Amazon Instant Video, so Sony has an HD-master.
