I'm really bummed about this. The imdb message boards were the best place to exchange info on super-obscure films or discuss movies that don't get traction on other forums. And for soundtrack questions it was invaluable! It wasn't a perfect system - I was upset when they purged a lot of older messages a few years back and the trolling can get obnoxious - but I'd rather have imperfect than nothing.

Every now and then there would be a super rare film that had maybe one message on its board, but just having that lead, or knowing somebody else watched it and cared enough to comment, would be enough. Most of the idiots on that board are atrocious, but it was still a half useful system that gave a voice to any and all films. RIP.

I've used the message board every once in a while over the years and obtained good information through it. It's not really too surprising however, as it basically happened on Amazon as well.

It's just unfortunate that there are so many asshole trolls precipitating it's downfall, but they seem to be ruining it just about everywhere now.

I always found the forums useful for picking up info but there is so much trolling and childish bs on many of them that I'm not surprised this is happening. It's a shame people couldn't act like adults.

I, too, have found some useful information on the message boards through the years, but it's been a very long time. I have a feeling that the true film fans will find other sites on which to share their knowledge. Having said that, I hope the trolls stick to other sites and don't come nosing around here.

Amen. I never cared for the boards on IMDB for that very reason.

"Tihs is teh worstest!!", "Have you ever...", "Am I the only one that thinks...", "People who like, like this movie are like the stuppidest evah", "You are all wrong, The Goonies is about terrywrists" ... just some of the more illuminating topic titles on IMDb forums. It was a perfect place to observe the Idioticus Extremus in its natural habitat... that and the trolls. I'm on board with those who say good riddance! You want great news and an interesting exchange with other fans? Go to specialized boards like this one! General boards attract trolls and idiots.

Now where will I find other lonely losers who seek 'n00ds' from b-list starlets they happened to notice in a film at 1am?

Never posted there but did read them from time to time. I agree with others here, it's was littered with trolls.

So long as we still have the ability to make lists, the boards can take a flying leap.

I never really looked at their forums. I noticed stuff at the bottom of the page on movies that I think were forum topics. Which itself is a good idea. It seems like whatever forum moderators were there let things get out of hand a long time ago. It sounds like Youtube comments from the closing wording and what you guys are saying. I will say that even the IMDB reviews are kind of suspect. I remember looking at some for It Follows and there are people that actually don't like that movie. I guess Facebook and other sites might be easier to control.

On another note, the Horror.com forum has been down for a few weeks. That place was slowly dying. It' seems like it finally happened.

I used to peek at it here and there to find information about upcoming DVD releases, but obviously this site is the best place for that. However, I did still like it for folks opinions/interpretations on movies that had twists and unintuitive scenes or finales. It was sometime interesting to see how some perceived certain scenes. But yeah, definitely some trolling and unnecessary obnoxiousness was present - too bad.

Apparently, this place rose before Muting became a thing on social media.

Funny thing is that now that it's gone, I miss the forums. I find myself still scrolling towards the bottom of the screen to read them.

Like I said before, it had a lot of trolls, but I liked to read through them from time to time. They never had any breaking news stuff or anything like that, but it was interesting to see other people that have questions or comments similar to what I was thinking about. If anything, the plot theory comments on a TV series or movie was fun reading.
