Oh, it's a DOOZY! There's not a whole lot of gore missing, but you can tell where the cuts are (like a quick cut-a-way when Sally rips the back of a victim just before the scene showing the teens in the car). But the biggest head-scratcher of all is the blurry, shaky photography and out-of-synch dialogue when the young boys' parents are having a night out in downtown Berlin. I never understood why they left such damaged material in the final edit! I remember the 1993 laserdisc from Image being a major step up in quality. Not much...but enough.
I gather Demons III: The Ogre and The Church are both worth seeing. From a brief search it looks like I could get my hands on The Ogre pretty easy, The Church may take some look'n. Are the any of the other sequels worth while?
I think the Blue Underground currently has the rights to The Church. It shouldn't be hard to find their DVD, which is basically just a reissue of Anchor Bay's disc, at any of the major online retailers.
just wondering if anyone can guide me in the direction of the demons releases by dragon...for that matter, where can one buy any dragon releases? i keep hearing about a waxwork release that trumps the R1 version...
If you get Demons 3, get the Shriek Show 3 Pack called Demons. You get that and 2 other films (not very good ones) for $15 at Best Buy. I was actually looking for The Ogre for a while and happened upon this set and grabbed it for the price. Haven't finished the other 2 films, since they aren't very good, but the price is right!
Well I pulled out my Demons DVD and went to fire it up last night in the theater room and for some reason I had thought it was a 16x9 transfer but it was a 1:66 letterboxed movie. When you have a big screen it sucks to have to zoom in on a DVD picture because it softens the picture big time and 1:66 is the worst for zooming because most zooms go to 1:78 and then you cut the top and bottom off. if the movie is letterboxed. Is there a release that is 16x9? because I love this movie and would rush out looking for it today. As it was I put it away and pulled out the original Dawn Of the Dead instead. I am not one of those that must have an HD disc I am willing to still use DVD in my theater but it needs to be at least a 16x9 transfer to get shown on the big screen. Max
Yep, Anchor Bay re-released Demons 1 & 2 (last year I think) with nice anamorphic transfers (same extras though)
Yeah, I have the 2k7 Starz/AB releases of the first 2 "Demons" fliks and they both have crisp, clean 1.66:1 Anamorphic transfers
I had the original release, and upgraded to the newer AB disc, the quality difference is nothing short of amazing! Every detail stood out, colors were vivid and noticed several things I never caught before. Unfortunately, you notice some small make up/special effects mistakes that you probably should have never noticed. But that shouldn't stop anyone from picking it up. Along with the second film, I'd recommend them both!
I can't comment on the AB release but the French release looks stunning!: Great transfer, pity only in French... http://www.devildead.com/indexfilm.php3?FilmID=1808&NamePage=demons--demoni-
Who with a penchant for horror and born in the 20th century could NOT love Demons? Absolutely fantastic entertainment, and screw all the fools who go on about various technical merits... the same (mostly) applies to Demons 2.
