I like it a lot - guilty pleasure if you will. It's one of those movies that just stuck with me because of the setting, atmosphere, backwoods maniac type stuff. It seems like they tried so hard to make a good slasher but just didn't have the sources to do all the in between stuff. The b roll scenes are so lazy it's funny. I mean outside of the "national geographic" scenes we got the Ranger playing the banjo, telling a fawn a joke, and Uncle Fester eating a cucumber sandwich :D

Yeah that joke to the fawn puts even Dr. Dolittle to shame.

Quick question I can find listings about The Prey (1980) and The Prey (1984). Are they different movies? If not, whats with the conflicting date?

No, they are the same film. It was shot in '80, but not released till '84.

I like The Prey quite a bit. Gale is one of my favorite slasher characters, some effects are nice and gooey...and the dark ending adds to it...for me at least. Rent it!

Do any of you guys have any experience buying from that "ioffer" seller? I got a few from the Fleshwound guy and was very impressed with the quality of the prints as as well as the custom boxes. This guy has a few titles I would love to check out, but I was wondering if the quality of the transfers and boxes compares to fleshwound.

Nope I have never ever used that site. The person does appear to have good FB. Still as I said in the past. "I refused to support bootleggers." Hopefully someone else will have more info.

Just watched this and wasn't very impressed. The monster looks impressive, but is onscreen for maybe 30 seconds. The ending was great, but getting there is quite a chore.

Watched this last night again and yeah, it's still one of my favorite childhood slashers from VHS days.
The campfire scene continues to crack me up, and I'm always interested in hearing the blonde chicks whole story where she claims to be stuck in a car with water coming over the windows :D
Love the old couple at the beginning. They seem to enjoy whatever they are eating very much

I doubt we will ever get this on DVD, but a widescreen release would be really appreciated. Uncut or R-Rated, I wouldn't mind.

I would love to see the long-rumored gypsy flashback scene myself.

I've seen the gypsy flashback scenes. They're nothing great. Just some nudity, out of place tone for the film and stretching the film to almost 2 hours. I love The Prey, but I prefer less of it in this case...good to see it otherwise. It's cool to see for the sake of it.

Yeah, so I too just watched the "uncut" version of this movie, and I actually think that footage was added at a later time. Like someone at one point tried to make the movie a little longer and give it some more background. I tell you this, it is completely unnescessary.

For starters you can tell Joel's voice changes right before and right after this story about the gypsies. It's also a really long friggin story that should have been like 5 minutes tops, but instead run like 15-20 minutes. There's some soft porn-type scenes in it too. I swear to God, the Gypsy guy that ends up having sex with one of the local married women I've seen in a porno before - lol.

The only redeeming quality from this "uncut" portion is that you learn the killer is actually named Leo, and when he was 6 years old he had the body of a 16 year-old - much larger than everyone else. Other than that, this whole Gypsy scene kills the momentum and overall creepy feel of the movie. It seems very out of place.
