I'm thinking of looking for an LD of this and was wondering if there is any 1 disc that is better than another? or was there only 1 release?

There is a Japanese LD of Return of the Living Dead. Both are P&S. I would expect quality to be very similar - both released in the 80s, as far as I know.

I was under the impression that a full frame version of ROTLD was open matte, not Pan & Scan. At least that's how it appears when I watch both versions of the MGM DVD. Dave, does this mean that the Image & Japanese LD's are Pan & Scan transfers of the matted Widescreen prints?

I'm not sure, to tell you the truth. I've never seen the LDs.

Japanese disc is known by the title Battalion and has a pretty cool jacket, might even be gatefold but I have only seen pics of it. Shows up on eBay infrequently.

There was a disc on eBay last week claiming to be a letterboxed laserdisc. The jacket featured a close-up shot of the zombie from the end of the film. I wonder...

I recall that there was a PAL LD of ROTLD that had a letterboxed transfer, but I don't think there was ever an NTSC LD.

That LTBX Tartan disc is PAL.

There is no LTBX NTSC release of ROTLD on LD

A copy of Battalion went unsold on eBay @ 75.00 a few days ago.
