Well then I'll eat me hat.

(It likely is though. Arrow said they had another Argento title coming this year and they've also hinted that it was Cat O' Nine Tails.)

I am definitely buying Cat O' Nine Tails. Just gets annoying how Arrow calls downgraded standard edition films "new release announcements." Lazy day of so-called new releases.

My George Romero: Between Night and Dawn boxset arrived in the mail today on my lunch break. Probably won't get into it before Halloween, but can't wait to check out Season of the Witch in HD!

So, a fox with two tails really means a cat o'nine tails?

And people complain that the Criterion puzzles are too hard to guess?

  9. I'll pass on Cat'O Nine Tails. I liked it enough but not enough to purchase it in HD. I don't play it enough to justify it.

The Argento completist in me will not allow me to pass on it.

Yeah I'm a bit on the fence about it. Not sure if I'll get it or not.

Of Argento's so-called animal trilogy, I consider Cat the best. There's a delicious irony to the killer's motivation, and the gallery of characters is colourful. Bird has improved with multiple viewings for me, but I don't quite get why it's held so much higher than other gialli. Four Flies is overrated, and when the reason behind the killer's fractured psyche is revealed, it's more silly than shocking. I suspect that much of the appeal was that it was difficult to find at once.

Except everybody guessed it based on the clue. So, it actually was a very good clue...just a good clue that people didn't like.

That's funny as I'd have Bird at the top of the animals trilogy. I find it a great detective piece and it blows my mind this was Argento's first film. That just makes it even better. I quite like the characters here also.

I agree the Flies is overrated. I gave it another watch not long ago and found it incredibly slow and boring. The lead just isn't as interesting as the others in the animal trilogy, nor is the story. I found the image retention on the eye before death to be a really interesting concept but it comes into the story far too late.

Cat I don't dislike. I just don't remember finding as thrilling as Bird. I'll probably end up grabbing the Limited Edition the more I think about it.

Most people rate Bird the highest of the three. I do consider it a good movie, and from a narrative perspective, it's probably superior to Cat. That said, I always enjoyed Cat more.

Don't forget Bird was first and the most surprising.

I agree. When I got the Maya DVD, I was underwhelmed. Brandon barely hits room temperature as the protagonist. Of the three in the unofficial trilogy, Flies is the slightest by far. For different reasons, I like Cat and Bird about equally.

I wish Season of the Witch was sold separately. Out of the two expensive box sets out on Nov. 13th, The Paul Naschy set is a far better deal. Less money, more movies, and ones that I’d be more likely to revisit at that.

Season of the Witch most likely will be sold separately at a later date. Depends how fast the limited box set sells? I would think that The Crazies would also be sold separately too. Both of those would have enough demand to be sold individually. There's Always Vanilla, not so much.
