I have never heard anyone say that before. Not a criticism mind you. I have only seen it once many years ago. I'm looking forward to this set.

Apparently Arrow has the following titles lined up for release:

    Sartana
    Killer Klowns from Outer Space
    Scalpel

Sartana and Scalpel are great news.

I already have the Arrow UK Steelbook Blu-ray of Killer Klowns from Outer Space. That's already an excellent release packed with bonus features, so it will most likely just be a direct port of that to Region "A" shores.

Wouldn't make any sense to just do a port, since there's already a Region A release from MGM which has the exact same transfer. The Arrow might have a few other extras, but that's it. If they are re-releasing it, my guess is it's a new transfer.

Possibly, but their track record with re-releasing titles stateside would suggest a simple port.

They just ported the same exact discs for The Stuff, Blood & Black Lace, Cinema Paradiso, Spider Baby, Donnie Darko, Hellraiser box, Django, Prepare a Coffin, etc.. They did no new transfers/disc alternations or even major artwork/packaging updates...except for changing the region codes when they obtained the licensing rights here.

It's the same MGM transfer used on the Arrow UK release, but it is an altogether different Arrow encode.

Most of those titles though didn't previously have a US Blu-ray release except for Donnie Darko and Hellraiser, and those had completely different transfers than the previous editions.

And since 2018 marks the 30th Anniversary of Killer Klowns, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's a whole new transfer/special edition.

It won’t be a new transfer so don’t get your hopes up. I’d say there’s a 99.9% chance it won’t be. Every single time Arrow releases a title in the US/Canada that already had a U.K. release, it’s ALWAYS just a direct port of that disc.

If they were doing a whole new edition, their original release of Killer Klowns would’ve gone out of print at this point to make way for the new release. If they are releasing this title stateside, it’ll just be a region A release of their region B disc. That’s how all their region A/B releases are. They’re always totally identical. Why would this be any different?

If that is the case, I would hope they're smart enough to realize their premium prices aren't going to cut it when there's a comparable mass produced disc easily available for $5.

Totally. I mean hey I might be wrong, it very well could get a new restoration. It doesn’t seem likely but I’m all for it if they decide to do a 4K remaster or something.

For what it's worth, Calum Waddell, the former Arrow Video / current 88 Films collaborator, indicated earlier this year that a 4K "remaster" of Killer Klowns was in the works for Arrow. Say what you will about Calum and the way he goes about his business, but he does have a fairly reliable track record when it comes to revealing / spoiling Arrow's upcoming announcements.

When arrow have released an edition in the US that was previously UK only. the contents are the same, this is because arrow did a new transfer for the UK edition

Firstky, who has indicated killer klowns will be US only?

Secondly, for the UK edition of killer klowns, they used the MGM transfer, the same as the one used on the US MGM release.

There is no way they would re-release in the UK and drop an edition in the US that was the same as previous releases. It will be a new transfer, I'd bet my house on it!

    Cinema Arcana did:

If it turns out that it's actually both a UK & US release, then that would almost certainly mean it's a re-vamped transfer.

Fair enough, didn't read the attached article just the information in the previous post.

A re-issue seems very Strange when it's already available from MGM in the US, there release is cheap and the transfers are the same. Time will tell.
