Didn't they do a new transfer for Vamp when it came out in the US? I know it wasn't a simple port it had all new extras.

"KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE (1988) alongside their other dual-country releases, hinting the candy-colored camp parade will soon see a U.S. reissue from the label."

Re-reading the Cinema Arcana bit above it doesn't actually state "US-only" but just that a previously US released title (the MGM release being what it is referring to) is getting a re-issue from Arrow, and it even states "alongside their other dual-country releases" indicating it too should likely be dual territory.

If anyone wants their Blood Feast disc just by itself, it's only $13.25 on Amazon.

But personally, I'd recommend the whole set.

Wow, BU blows away Arrow on this one imo. Brighter, more defined, colors popping. Different sources I'm guessing since Arrow's BitRate is higher.

The Arrow absolutely beats the BU. There’s more refined grain on the Arrow, it’s marginally darker and the BU has contrast issues, look at the sky in cap 9. On the Arrow you can see sky and clouds, whereas on the BU it’s a washed out mess. The grain on the BU is all blotchy too. There’s also more detail in the fire on Arrow’s transfer in cap 3.

Nah. The BU transfer sucks balls. Arrow finally did a good job on this movie.

Yeah, Arrow's 4K remaster is miles above BU's 2K remaster as far as detail, grain, and authenticity to it's original intended look go. BU's is still a decent transfer but it is too bright/contrasty in comparison, especially losing details in the highlights.

To each his own I guess, Arrow looks dark and blurry to me. Yeah, I see the slight blockiness, but it looks like Arrow took that same blockiness and just tried to smooth the edges over making it blurry. Enjoy!

The Arrow is darker overall because the BU is more digitally brightened, hence the highlight blowouts (loss of detail in whites/bright areas) on the BU transfer. Arrow's is also far more detailed than the BU because of the 4K scan so not sure how it would look more blurry as it's a lot sharper/fine and you can see more natural grain and shadow detail/separation... so not sure how you are seeing it being blurry or having smoothed edges because it's quite the opposite.

I dunno, maybe it's personal preference - you're right in terms of natural grain, but is it possible to have too much grain? Looking at a landscape of trees is easier on my eyes with colors popping rather than grain saturating. Same with the white suits - the grain over saturates giving a dark blur. I get it, grain is cool and such, but sometimes it's too much to me. I wouldn't upgrade my BU disc for this.

I admit, I didn't look at every cap, and some are a little too bright- agreed. I just don't agree with the crazy improvements. If lotsa grain is your thing, or "the way some person intended you to see it" (which doesn't necessarily mean it's accurate or something we all need to adhere to) then that's great - Kudos.

Grain is inherent in the film stock, it's not something that gets added so you can never have too much grain. And you'll always see more of it with higher resolution scans since the detail is greater.

Oh yes, I know it wasn't added on purpose to this film, and that the higher the res the more ya see. It was a general statement. I know it can be added to stuff like House of the Devil - at least I recall having a grain filter on my Vegas Movie Studio app. I guess I don't mind in certain scenarios when grain is lightened if that's the trade off - detail vs. grain.

Not knocking your preference for the transfers, just providing technical facts. For instance, if grain is digitally removed or "lightened" in your terms you are actually losing detail so it's not "detail vs. grain" as they are directly linked, and if you remove grain the only way to bring that detail back is to digitally sharpen the image. The more you know! ;)
