    Has anyone else seen this?
Its from the director of Versus. (ryuhei kitamura)
I actually found this to be quite the entertaining film. It starts out all happy and whatnot, then gets good and bloody. Lots of swordplay and stuff in this. It has probably one of the better final sword fights I have seen come out from the far east. (the lone chick against maybe 200 baddies) Pretty cool!

Yes, it's great. We've discussed it a few time here. The DVD was released a couple of weeks ago in Japan with English subtitles. I have not heard of any plans for it's US release, but Kitamura has signed a three picture deal with Miramax. Let's hope he didn't sign any DVD distribution rights over at the same time.

By the way, my favortie scene in Azumi is the fight scene of the bridge. Great camera work, plenty of action and lot's of blood.

Glad to hear it's pretty good. :)

Hey DeadDevilMan, what's the price of DVD's in Japan on average? 1 US dollar is around 110 yen - correct? Do you find it cheaper to buy in Japan or is customs a bitch?

DVD's run about 40-50 US bucks, and that even goes for the Power Ranger stuff that I get for the kids. I have never had a problem with customs.

Checked out Azumi tonight and man, was it ever so good.

A bit depressing in some parts, but a solid movie that I will watch again and again.

Ryuhei Kitamura has a great eye for visuals, some of the shots are stunning.

i watched this yesterday and i was totally blown away. i loved Versus but this one was much more emotional and intense, the opening 20 minutes (the final test and the village) was depressing and beautiful. almost as beautiful as Azumi herself.

the DVD i saw was the 2-disc set, region 2 Japan and it was gorgeous. i dont know if this could ever look better.

Ah okay, thanks. A little on the expensive side though, I'll wait for another release. Sounds great either way.

Andrew - I picked mine off of Ebay for 20 bucks (I do not have a region free player yet). There was some digital compression, but it's anamorphic and DTS.

If you are interested, I can dig up the seller's ID. It's a great movie.

  15. Honestly, I can say that the one on ebay has awesome quality, with all the bonus stuff on the 2nd disc. It's up to anybody who either wants to pay 65 bucks or 20.
I paid 20 and would never need to upgrade! Awesome movie by the way.

Is that Ebay disc a bootleg by any chance?

Should be cool, I've been anxious to check this film out since it came out.

i was just about to buy the R3 DVD. be warned, the cheaper R3 Korean DVD is the shorter international version of the film, not the longer directors cut. approx 15 minutes difference.
