If you are familiar with the endings of both movies then I guess you'll know why I paired them for a match up!

I do greatly enjoy The Initiation, but Happy Birthday To Me gets my vote.

It's no contest! "Happy Birthday to Me", by far.
I think "The Initiation" could have the closest competition with "Killer Party" or "Girls Nite Out".

This one is just horrible Billy. I don't want to pick, as I love them both. Damn it. I am going with The Initiation because I watch it more than Happy Birthday to Me. I love "breaking into a mall" horror movies.

  5. :) I love you for that vote...lol I went with The Initiation too for the exact same reason.

No contest, The Initiation. I love Happy Birthday to Me and all, but The Initiation is top three slasher material. I've always been surprised that it doesn't get more recognition. Great film.

I bought Initation, watched it once, and sold it back at work.

I bought Happy Birthday To Me when the price dropped on DDD, watched it twice, want to watch it again soon actually.

    Easy.

The Initiation for me. Birthday is really overrated, IMO.

Have both on DVD (and HBTM on video for the original score) but have to go with The Initiation.

Happy Birthday by a mile for me, I also sold my copy of Initiation. If the gore wasn't cut, this would be one of the great all- time slashers.

There were maybe a few moments of The Initiation that I thought were that good. Happy Birthday to Me was much better (and more violent), I thought. The ending was kind of stinky though.

I saw HBtM recently and was surprised by how above average it was for it's type and the time it was released.

Definitely Happy Birthday to Me! One of my all-time favorite slashers. It has the audacity to go for that/those ending/s - and pulls it off! So much craziness going on in that film!

8 years and 1 rewatch later, I'm definitely breaking for The Initiation. Extremely entertaining little film.

Happy Birthday to Me has more propulsive oomph... for awhile, and I love the class-conscience sociopolitical commentary toward the end, but it was messier and longer and mostly served just the red herrings. Nearly 2 hours and as you start catching up to that lethargic running time, the fact that it isn't gory enough finally reminds you that it needs more to it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME. (hope it's not too late to vote!). I'm lucky to have seen the original 1981 theatrical release with Bernadette's throat slash in full along with Etienne's death-by-tire spoke and David's brutal end with the fire poker in full! Blu Ray Gods: WHERE, OH WHERE, HATH THE EFFECTS GONE?????
