Maximum Overdrive is a lot of fun. The Mangler is just a sorry excuse for a movie.

Despite what most people say about these films, I adore the hell out of both Maximum Overdrive and The Mangler. This is actually a pretty tough decision, but I have to go with the former due to having more nostalgic memories associated with it.

Maximum Overdrive. I loved this movie as a kid, would rent it every so often and replay it over and over. I just thought the idea was so much fun. I think "Ghost in the Machine" would have been a better rival film against it, as opposed to The Mangler.
I like this cover more for the movie though. Mainly because it has the Goblin-Truck face on the cover, and it looks better than the other one, in my opinion. The other cover always reminds me of Duel.

Stephen King can do no wrong, even when he does things very wrong. Maximum Overdrive all the way!

Maximum Overdrive. In spite of the AC/DC soundtrack.

I have never seen The Mangler, but because I love Maximum Overdrive so much, I can't vote against it. Maximum Overdrive forever.

"Honey... The cash machine called me an asshole!"

  15. I'm actually a fan of both films. I know most hate the Mangler and I can kinda see why but I've always enjoyed it. But I had to vote for Maximum Overdrive, it was way more rewatchability...

I've only seen The Mangler once and that was on Cinemax, back in mid-'96 sometime. But I remember the experience of watching it and I remember what it was: mean-spirited.

There are 2 kinds of mean-spirited. There's the kind that makes you smile, and leaves you can't-waiting to see what will happen next. And then there's the kind that leaves you feeling the filmmakers are putzes trying to look tough...

Well, Maximum Overdrive is the good kind of mean-spirited. The Mangler was just dumb, ugly, and heartless.

MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE is a big, loud, silly movie that I can't help but like. King was obviously having fun with that one. THE MANGLER was one of my favorite King short stories but I thought the film version was pretty dire. Not one of Tobe Hooper's gems.
