Yeah, I'm not saying I didn't like because there wasn't much gore - I just went into it thinking there would be more and somewhat of a darker film. It seemed more like a reality spoof to me. Oh yeah, and exploding necklaces - where did they get that from? And I have no friggin idea who NeonGenesis Evangelion is  Good lord guy.
Battle Royale is certainly a dark film…more of a sarcastic dark film in the same vein as The Running Man. But yeah…I hate all these people in an absolute uproar over the film/book of The Hunger Games similarities to Battle Royale with absolutely no mention of The Running Man (book or film) regarding either of the two. Stephen King dethrones them all!
Yeah, when I say "dark" I mean more morbidly. Definitely a lot of Running Man similarities. I watched the Director's Cut too so I'll try the theatrical next - perhaps better/shorter flow.
I actually kind of liked that part in the movie - thought it worked well with what the film was trying to do and kinda funny in a morbid weird way. There are some Running Man similarities - but not enough to make it seem it was trying to mimic that book/movie (unlike Hunger Games in comparison to Battle Royale) Agree
That's one of my favorite parts. There's a similar character in the much derided Stacy and I enjoyed it there too.
Well, anime aside (and I included the Evangelion photo, because the actress who plays that girl in Battle Royale is most known for voicing that anime character, a 14 year old girl), the little-girl voice is a much desired quality in Japan. Receptionists are instructed to use a voice like that on the phone. So it's really part of the culture, and makes perfect sense that a serious organization like the BR Act would want their representative to have the little-girl voice and be oh-so-cutesy like that.
The Complete Collection 4-Disc Blu-ray set is now $15 at Amazon, so I finally bit. I can't see it going too much lower than that, eh? :nervous:
So many dam BR threads, I didn't want to start a new thread so I figure I put it here. http://www.mondotees.com/ (was) selling this Battle Royale poster by Bryan Lee O'Malley and Kevin Tong. Pretty cool imo, but it seems to be sold out already.
