I was interested in the Dragon Princess/Karate Warriors set. I picked up the Teacher/Pick Up disc and was really disappointed. I just didn't... get it, I guess.

I had no interest in that set. They just don't seem like movies I'd enjoy. I'm only going to pick up the horror and action ones, not the sex ones or even the motorcycle gang one they have coming up.

    - Kill Point (1984)
    - Nine Deaths of a Ninja (1985)
    - Low Blow (1986)
    - Top Cop (1990)

(Read about Killpoint / 9 Deaths of a Ninja here)

School Dazed - 8 Movie Collection

Who knows. And after finally viewing both Black Candles and Evil Eye, I really can't recommend either film or the DVD for that matter.

Neither film is too good, story-wise or in execution. Black Candles could almost be classified as a softcore porno rather than a horror film.

Not only are both films non-anamorphic, but the transfers are generally poor and obviously came from video transfers as evident by the numerous "video blips" and distortions in both of the film's transfers. These honestly look like transfers better suited for release on Brentwood's old 10-pack and 4-pack releases.

And they are cheaply manufactured too. Even intact in the cases, the "flipper discs" were scratched to hell. I was amazed they even played as bad as they looked. Two movies shoved on each side, and each side is only a single-layer thus audio/video isn't the greatest.

Maximum Action was still worth it, but I'm sure glad that I had purchased the single releases of the titles in the School Dazed set.

Can someone recommend some of the these. Not the karate looking ones though. The one that had Malibu High looked interesting, and the Coach and Beach Girls? looked like cheesy fun i guess.

i always loved THE BEACH GIRLS. i can remember it as one of the first T&A movies i saw as a youngster. I fell in love with one of the girls, Jeana Tomasina, then later she turned up as one of the ZZ TOP girls in the "legs" video!

I'd heartily recommend them, great 70's/80's T&A cheese!

I've always liked it as well. It's almost one instance where I actually prefer watching the open-matte Fullscreen version (that I always knew and loved) over the "matted" widescreen version. :eek2:

I'm really stoked that this series will continue, especially considering the Weinstein Co.'s suing of everyone using the word "Grindhouse".

Here's hoping for more early 80s sex comedies!

Thanks for the update Tawny! I'm really annoyed at how The Weinsteins think they own the term Grindhouse. Fuck em, who cares? Great to see this series will live on with a new title and packaging. I'm sure with you being the host, the dvds will be even better.

I would love to see some more action/adventure and also some blaxploitation titles as future releases. Of course, any horror additions are most welcome. Look forward to these Exploitation Cinema releases. Keep us posted.

    DVD Drive-In:

On September 16, BCI will release two enticing double feature DVDs as part of their “Exploitation Cinema” series. First off will be CEMETARY GIRLS (aka COUNT DRACULA’S GREAT LOVE) starring Spanish horror legend Paul Naschy, along with VAMPIRE HOOKERS, starring John Carradine and directed by Cirio H. Santiago. Both titles will have anamorphic widescreen transfers and the disc will retail for $12.98. Also retailing for $12.98 is a double disc of British horror classics directed by Norman J. Warren and written by David McGillivray (FRIGHTMARE, HOUSE OF WHIPCORD): SATAN’S SLAVE (starring Brit horror legend Michael Gough) and TERROR. These two titles will be presented widescreen on home video for the first time in America.

Should I bother grabbing these sets or should I seek out the BBCI Eclipse Welcome to the Grindhouse 2 packs? You can still get some of these 2 packs for about $5 each. Reading around it looks like the 2 packs have 16X9 transfers while the Drive-In Clut Classics sets have poor 4X3 transfers. Is that the case?

I have SCHOOL DAZED collection and the discs were all scratched even though they were in little envelopes safely in the case.
The pic quality is like looking at enhanced NTSC tube tv lines. Very non-progressive scan but really enhanced.
