Sure they do. The poll merely reflects those actor's who have stayed in the horror genre for more than just a couple films. I didn't mean for the poll to be based on acting ability. Don't worry about who is the better actor, just go with who you like. :)

By the way, if anyone can think of more actors that should have been included in this poll, feel free to do a part 2 and list them.

What, no votes for Karloff ? He's my man. It was a vote for Cushing or Karloff, but Karloff played a lot more varied characters than Cushing ever did and I don't recall him ever doing a scene as emotional as Karloff (with the blind man) in "Bride...".

For me its always been the debate of who's better Lee or Price? Its is very very close but I have to go with Vincent Price by a hair length over Christopher Lee with the underrated John Saxon and Peter Cushing coming in 3rd and 4th. However best performance in one horror movie? My nomination would be Jeffrey Combs in Re-Animator.

Donald Pleasance, I am shocked at the lack of votes he got. At least he was in good company but GUNNAR HANSEN???? What the... How did he get in the list?

Christopher Lee is my choice, but Vincent Price is another one of my favorites who seemed to make a decent living making horror films. :)

I picked Christopher Lee. Campbell, Morghen and Warbeck deserve a big nod too. :)

  12. Had to give props to Chris Lee! A truly talented actor and still going very strong in 2 big series': Lord Of The Rings and Star Wars! I based it on acting ability...Cushing & Pleasance were at a close 2nd!

Vincent Price is my all-time favorite genre actor. Close behind are Peter Cushing, Boris Karloff, and Christopher Lee.

This poll was before my time (joining Horrordvds), but I thought it was a great one. Stumbled upon this doing a search for Vincent Price and just had to vote.

If the criteria was strict in its interpretation of "Best Actor", he'd be hard to top. Lee, Cushing, and Karloff would certainly be ones for the task, if anyone. Pleasance stands mighty tall as well, the man was definitely a pro in the acting game.

As much as I enjoyed watching Gunnar Hansen and John Saxxon, "best actor" is not a title I'd confer to them.

And Jeffrey Combs and Bruce Campbell have definitely proven their acting chops with some surprisingly deep roles, despite being better known as (even overshadowed by) over the top hams (the former in varied roles in Star Trek DS9 / Enterprise, the latter of course in Bubba Ho-Tep). I've long been convinced these two deserve to be called actors and not just characters, but again "best" doesn't apply when compared to the likes of the masters listed above.

Yes, I would definitely include Donald Pleasance along with the other aforementioned masters. His presence lent class and credibility to so many film productions regardless of the budget.

Much as I've been entertained by Saxon, Hansen, Campbell, and to a lesser degree Combs - I personally can't compare them for even a fleeting moment to these timeless screen legends of horror.

I believe my intentions when I made this poll a few years back was to let the voter choose their own personal favorite actor that had numerous roles in horror films and not necessarily the acting ability of said actor/actress. I guess my titling of the thread was not as clear as I thought it was. I can see why some may have believed it was about the talent.
