Okay, I was watching my favorite commentary earlier today (or rather listening) Evil Dead 2. This got me wondering, "what is everyones favorite commentary?" so I decided I would ask. Most likely audio commentary, but if you have some text commentary that is good enough, feel free to mention it. In fact, feel free to mention just about anything the mods will allow, because I can't really control you. I would have included a poll, but even though commentary is my favorite feature, I don't feel I've been listening to commentary long enough to know all the good commentary out there... Hence me wanting to know!
The Prowler: Tom Savini and Joseph Zito The Fog: John Carpenter and Debra Hill Halloween: John Carpenter, Debra Hill and Jamie Lee Curtis. I wish Jamie had more to say though. I also heard the commentary for Silence of The Lambs is excellent and is considered one of the best. Thats all I can think of at the moment.
There's a damn fine commentary track for a pretty lame "slasher": The In Crowd. Susan Ward and Lori Heurings comments are fun and not a minute boring. Most entertaining one since those C.H.U.D. and Re-Animator commentaries.
That is mine right there. No doubt. Of course I like all the Bruce and Bruce-Sam commentaries, but ED 2 is my favorite. I also like Kurt-John on Big Trouble in Little China. Those 2 crack me up.
Evil Dead Frailty Hell Night Sleepaway Camp worst:Candyman 2.You know its bad when the director starts off by saying "I know everybody hates non screen specific commentaries, but that's all I know how to do, so I'm gonna do it anyway" Or something to that effect.:fire:
I'm not really a fan of the Silence of the Lambs commentary, but i know seveeral people who love it. I like most of the commentaries for Carpenter films too, my favorites already listed here, The Fog, Halloween, and The Thing (no specific order) I also hated the butt-ass commentary for Candyman 2, I only finished half of it, and I had to turn it off.
I know it's not horror, but if you get a chance, watch Dude Where's my Car with the commentary by Ashton Kutcher,Seann Scott, and director Danny Liener!Fucking hilarious:lol:  (I don't want to spoil it, but when Seann leaves the room, the other guys start talking shit....)
The Maniac commentary is a favorite. Lustig, Savini, and one of Spinell's buddies are having a good time on this one. It's a shame that Spinell wasn't there.
I Spit on Your Grave: Joe Bob Briggs The Thing: John Carpenter, Kurt Russel I don't listen to too many commentarys, but those two are my favorites so far.
Candyman 2 has a commentary? I might have to pick up that disc! j/k My favorite by far is the Joe Bob Briggs commentary for I Spit On Your Grave. He kept me interested and in hysterics the whole time, which is reason enough to make it my favorite. That is one that is definitely worth repeat listens. I also enjoyed the commentaries for The Beyond (RIP David Warbeck ), Maniac, and The Howling.
The Thing any Evil Dead film or comm. tarck with Bruce Campbell The Beyond The Holwing They Live (reg. 2 only) Boondock Saints (reg. 1 is kinda weak, the reg2 Japan disc is way better!, yes they are completely different.) Most John Carpenter, except Mouth Of Madness (avoid unless you want to be a DP, then it's gold) Most Kevin Smith tracks are worth a listen.
How about, for a laugh, Ruggero Deodato's commentary (in Italian) for Jungle Holocaust--the guy talking to him keeps on asking him, "So, was this filmed in a studio?" and he patiently keeps saying "No, everything was on location." Then at one point RD says, "The cannibals fuck their women like animals--from behind," or something like that. I second Joe Bob's on I Spit...it's like the yin to Meir Zarchi's yang, i.e. Meir is the "serious" one and Joe Bob's is the "crack open a beer" one. Also check out the commentary to Blue Sunshine...the director is a riot, claiming that his film features the world's first SUV, first punk rocker, and first disco.
I really like the commentary on Big Trouble in Little China not really horror but JC so I would still count it. I always enjoy hearing JC and Kurt Russell together they really sound like they enjoy hanging out and bullshitting with each other, can't wait for the one for EFNY!
"Blood Feast"- Lewis/Freidman and co. "The Crazies" - Romero/Lustig "Driller Killer" - Ferrara "Peeping Tom" - Laura Mulvey
