Have to go with The Shining - which happens to be my second favorite horror film of all time.

Evil Dead 2 because that is my favorite movie ever. That said, most of that list is pretty sweet. Makes me want to fire up some 80s horror soon.

All are great. I vote for Hellraiser, simply because it's one of the few films to ever truly scare the shit out of me.

Really solid Decade. With the Shining Leading the way for me followed by Evil Dead as two films that should crack anyone's top 10 list.

Out of the choices listed, Kubrick's The Shining. Otherwise I'd choose Carpenter's The Fog.

ended up picked re-animator but i could have easily picked fifty titles.

strikes me as odd that i love so many 80's films, but when it came to the 90,s on onward i had no trouble picking on

I was split between what was on the list:
    The Shining
    The Thing
    Evil Dead
    An American Werewolf in London
    The Changeling
    Re-Animator
    The Beyond
The Return of the Living Dead
    Hellraiser
    Day of the Dead

...and what didn't make the cut:
    Dead Ringers
    Fright Night
    The Fog
    The Howling
    Videodrome
    The Hitcher
    The Dead Zone
    The Fly
    The Blob
    Creepshow

The above would have made my top 20 list. In the end it basically came down to The Thing, The Fly, The Dead Zone, Hellraiser, and The Shining. Not too surprising on The Fly, The Dead Zone, and The Shining - they share a common, and to me quite horrifying theme - the progressive destruction of a good human being by circumstances not quite out of their control. But in the end it was The Thing, its nail biting claustrophobic paranoia, gruesome demises, and not so happy ending hit all the right marks. This was a rock solid decade for horror films in my book.

This is a tough choice. So many classics. The 80's really were a great time for horror. But out of all those great films I had to choose the misunderstood masterpiece Day of the Dead. I personally think it is an amazing film, with top-notch gore effects. Everyone who worked on it did a very good job. Too bad it didnt get the honors it deserved when it was released.

This is tough! I picked "Day of the Dead." Underrated, gory entry in the trilogy.

Anyone care to start a '70s poll? To me that's the best decade of all for horror!

I picked Other because my favorite movie of the 80's is Videodrome. Cronenberg's masterpiece, IMO. :)

What a decade. Put virtually any of those films into the 90's or 00's, and it would probably be the best film of that decade. It was a bitch having to choose between THE SHINING, THE THING, THE EVIL DEAD and THE BEYOND, but I went with Carpenter in the end. I probably like THE FOG just a tiny bit more than THE THING, but since it wasn't on the list, and the fact that voting Other is pretty redundant, I went with THE THING. It has a great cast, and Carpenter did the unthinkable in actually getting all 12(?) main characters to be both unique and interesting. Usually when you start getting into the double digits in main characters they all start to blur into one, but Carpenter is great at personalizing large ensembles. The gore is probably the best that the cinema will ever see, and Cundey's cinematography and Morricone's scores always come through great. It's damn near a masterpiece, and it is great to see that this film has lived on despite its failure at the box office. But man, what a decade.

It's hard for me to choose between Aliens, The Thing & Hellraiser. I'll go with Hellraiser since it's pure horror, while the others also have sci-fi in them.

Rhett, you nailed it. The decade was fantastic and the films were so fresh. I would easily take a dozen or more of those over the 90's or current offerings. Damn it makes me sad.
