An amazing list of nominees, but for me there can only be one, and that is HALLOWEEN.

Well, seeing as how it's my favorite film of all time, I'll go with The Evil Dead.

Too hard to pick just one, of course, but I chose Texas Chainsaw again (like I did in the '70s poll). It's just too effin cool for school.

I have all but Black Christmas on DVD, and it is so hard to choose, I LOVE THEM ALL, but my favorite has to be EVIL DEAD.

You know it's a tough group when The Shining, Alien and Phantasm are yet to get a vote.

It was pretty even between Evil Dead & The Exorcist for me, so let me flip a coin.............Exorcist it is.

For me, this title can fluctuate from time to time -- year by year -- as my opinions change the more I veiw a particular movie. Within the last six months I've watched The Thing, Prince of Darkness, Dawn of the Dead, ect. Pretty much everything on this list -- and then some. A couple of things became apparent to me: First, is the fact that The Thing remains one of the greatest horror movies ever made; and to think -- not a single breast, or female for that matter, graces the screen as so many do in this genre of blood, sex and violence. Just an observation. Second, The Prince of Darkness is far better than the level of mecrocrity I attributed it the first time I saw it, in its theatrical release; and to think that it didn't even make this list is a bummer! Thirdly, after all these years, Dawn of the Dead still remains the greatest zombie movie ever made. Having said all that, my vote is for John carpenters' The Thing.

you know it was a great couple of decades for horror films when Alien hasn't even received a vote yet. it actually is the only one without a vote.....

I know I speak for a few others when I say I consider Alien more sci-fi than horror. Elements of both, of course, but so many of the others on the list are more firmly in the "just horror" camp.

yeah i was wondering if that might be why. it's one of the reasons i didn't vote for it. i was actually surprised to see it in the original poll.
that being said, I'm still surprised it hasn't received any votes.

I can see someone making that argument for Aliens which is more a sci-fi with horror elements. Saying that IMO Alien is a perfect example of a Horror film. If it's anything it's a Horror film first, with the sci-fi elements coming in secondary
