Dawn of the Dead
Here is my Top 10 of what's left.
1.Carrie - Not a perfect film but overall but just hit all the right buttons
2.The Exorcist - The most well made of horror films
3.The Texas Chain Saw Massacre - Best captures the horrors of man
4.The Shining - Overall second in execution
5.Evil Dead - frightening insanity
6.Black Christmas - Best slasher of all time
7.Psycho - Another almost flawless horror film
8.Night of the Living Dead - a scary zombie film and so much more.
9.Halloween - great atmosphere and tension
10.A Nightmare On Elm Street - great idea nicely executed.
I went TCM. The others are good, but I kind of resolved to stick by TCM a while ago in these polls
It really sucks to vote any of these AWESOME classics out, but I gotta go with the tried and true Dawn of the Dead. I cannot say how many times I've watched it, and I still intend to watch it countless more times. The cream of the crop. It doesn't matter if the make-up effects look outdated, or the 70's styles in it kinda make ya snicker, this film will always stand the test of time.
halloween - the greatest film of all time imo
My vote: Dawn of the Dead. Damn shame John Carpenter's The Thing is not included here. Something's wrong when it's missing from the top 20, IMO. Would of had my vote.
Voted Exorcist...but its only got 2 votes as of right now. If I had 2 choices I woulda chose Evil Dead as well.
Dawn of the Dead, though it wasn't easy, to say the least.
The Evil Dead. If it has to be second, I will accept it. But I personally think Raimi's masterpiece is the entire horror genre's masterpiece. It is brilliantly, masterfully directed, outrageously gory, it's got a hefty dose of cheesy humor, and I can literally commentate the movie myself. I know more about the series than can possibly be healthy for any subject in history.
I voted for Exorcist, with the Shining a close second
If I had the choice to watch just one of those films...........Kong.
I picked Black Sunday because I just love it. I know it probably won't win (and even before I hit the enter button I guessed correctly which one looks like it will), but oh well. All the films on this list are worthy, but King Kong horror? To me it's more adventure.
P.S.: Also very surprised that Black Sunday is about the only Eurohorror that made it to the finals. No gialli?!? But like American Idol, you can't bitch if you don't vote.
Dawn of the Dead.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre...there's a few others up there that are among my personal all-time top 10, but TCM is definitely #1.
Looks like Dawn may take this one...which is perplexing to me, since I don't even like the film, and the original NOTLD is FAAAR superior. I thought even hardcore Dead fans thought that. Ah, what do I know??
I agree that Night is a more effective horror film. I actually think it's a stretch to call Dawn a horror film even though I really do enjoy it and watch it quite often.
Kong is horror, at least to me. Pretty frightening as a kid. Dawn is way overated, but hey, its win was entirely predictable. I think it's a fun film, but would choose many over it.
...went with Night. It tore the nerve raw that every horror title since has been merely touching upon.
Oh, and add me to the list of folks who feel that Dawn is definitely more a zombie-filled action movie than true horror. It's great fun no matter how many times I watch, but scary...? Not once.
Well, George Romero doesn't really consider it a horror film either, so we're in pretty good company.
The Evil Dead
