We all know most remakes are just cash In's that rarely do their predecessors justice. Saying that who did it best?

Still have to go with Dawn Of The Dead. I've watched it countless times now and still really enjoy it.

Other: Willard (2003). The only recent remake which I think is actually a really good movie.

The Hills Have Eyes. That´s what I consider to be an example of good remake not pissing on the grave of old classic.

Dawn of the Dead was far better than it had any right to be. It also gets the most replays and wins easily. TCM and Hills Have Eyes are right behind. Looking forward to seeing MBV again to see if it stands on it's own or dies without the awesome 3-D.

I'd say The Ring is my favorite out of those films. Then again, I don't really like most of them anyway. But The Ring I always felt was pretty good; great atmosphere, beautiful cinematography and some creepy stuff going on. I found it way better than the overrated original.

I have no problems with remakes, and have enjoyed all of them that I have seen, with the exceptions of The Fog and I Am Legend which I hated. My favourite would have to be The Hills Have Eyes which I enjoyed more then Craven's original. Lot more tense for me, and every time I watch it I am on the edge of my seat even though I know how it ends. Great gore in it as well.

    1. Hills Have Eyes
    2. Dawn of the Dead
    3. The Ring
    4. Friday the 13th
    5. House of Wax/ Texas Chain Massacre

The Ring was the only one that improved upon the original, so I went with that.

Dawn, Hills, TCM, Last House and Legend (assuming you take it as a remake of Omega Man and not an adaptation of the book) were all good as well, but the rest were pretty shit.

there have been so many of these remakes, its hard to remember them all...there were also wicker man, black christmas, and omen remakes, not to mention the deluge of asian remakes....the grudge and the ring were only the beginning of that shit storm.

Looks like I will be the only (or one of a few) on this one. There is many in that list I haven't had the chance to see yet. But the one that gets the most replay value from me has to be the remake of Amityville Horror. I enjoy that one probably more then I should! :p

Dawn Of The Dead for me, followed by The Ring. I also have a soft spot for the When A Stranger Calls remake. I thought it wasn't too shabby.

I enjoyed Amityville Horror as well, it would probably be my 7th favourite from that list.

I thought When a Stranger Calls was decent too. Loved the house in it, gave it a nice atmosphere. I'd say it's just as good as the original, just because the original has such a boring middle, and tries to make you feel sympathetic for the killer which just didn't work for me. The beginning and the ending were amazing though!

I chose Dawn because it was actually a decent movie, TCM was ok in certain areas but overall it was lacking, couldn't stand THe Hills Have Eyes remake though, and I've yet to watch any of the Asian remake Invasion movies.

Even though its technically not a remake my favourite by far is:

Friday the 13th (2009) - was everything I hoped for and wanted it to be. Plus Derek Mears in my opinion is the best of the Jason's.

Must say I also loved My Bloody Valentine (2009), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), The Amityville Horror (2005) and House of Wax (2005).

When a Stranger Calls (2006) was a pretty good suspense movie too.

Other than the Ring (2002) I couldnt give a rats ass about these japenese remakes, they're all pretty much the same, little girls or boys aren't creepy.

Also just wanna say I hated Dawn of the Dead (2004) has nothing on the original classic and I fucking hate running zombies. The Hills Have Eyes (2006) is just a shitty remake of a shitty movie in the first place.
