Saw DOTD remake a few days ago again.
It's cool. And well made. But I really miss Romero's social commentary. And the ending is nihilistic just for the sake of it, something that I loathe.

Hills Have Eyes though seems perfect to me. A perfectly updated version.

Quarantine is just Rec with english dialog. Zero creativity.

Thank you! I agree. I will always prefer original material as well, but I've actually liked many of the recent remakes too.

I'm gonna have to go with Dawn of the Dead as well. The Ring remake was great, but no where near as good as the original. The Hills Have Eyes remake was pretty decent too.

Hills Have Eyes for Me. More because it's actually one of the few, if not the only, remake that's better than the original.

My Bloody Valentine, Friday the 13th and Dawn of the Dead are good too, but not nearly as good as the originals.

The Halloween and Dawn of the Dead remakes are both very entertaining films, the former getting the nod for being just a little moreso. The ending of the Dawn remake left a sour taste in my mouth, as did a few of the more typical action moments. From what I've cared to see, I also enjoyed the new Funny Games, and to a lesser extent, The Ring. I am pretty fond of Hooper's Toolbox Murders. That said, my favorite remake of the decade would be Vanilla Sky.

The two Aja films on the list were quite bad. I'm still waiting for him to do something worthwhile after the outstanding Haute Tension. I'm not really expecting Piranha 3-D to be it either.

I decided I should probably see the original before voting for the remake, so I didn't vote for QUARANTINE, but I did like it a lot.

Actually like quite a few of these.

I voted for the Dawn re-make also. I don't know about everyone else, but any zombie flick that has a Johnny Cash tune over the opening credits is pretty fuckin' cool in my book!!

The Hills Have Eyes followed closely by Dawn Of The Dead.

"Willard" has been the only decent one for well over a decade.

In terms of "best" I'd have to say FUNNY GAMES, since it approves on the original in almost every way and is the closest thing to approximating the "importance" of the revered seventies movies with its critique on the genre.

That said, there are a lot of remake I enjoy on a purely entertainment basis:

    My Bloody Valentine
The Last House on the Left
    The Amityville Horror
    The Hitcher

The Ring was the only film on that list I got through without complaining. A lot of it was boring as hell, but it wasn't as bad as the other films on the list.

Though I haven't seen Funny Games yet, I'm willing to give it a chance.

The Hills Have Eyes (2006) the only remake I don't hate.
