I went with Se7en because it was the one that affected me most. I was a relative virgin to that kind of psychologically bent film when I watched it. All of the kills leading up to it are revolting in their own ways and the (second) last one was no different. I couldn't believe a film could be so heartless. After watching it I felt like I had ascended (descended?) to some greater level of horror fan. Funny, I was trying to do a Brad Pitt impersonation this past weekend and the quote I chose was, "No Jon, we would have caught you eventually."
What makes Wicker Man's ending so great is that it actually IMPROVES subsequent viewings of the film (compared to a lot of "shock endings" which only work once...including the one I voted for!). A lot of people complain that The Wicker Man has "too much singing and dancing", or that "it's not horror, it's a musical" (by the way, it's definitely horror, especially what happens to that cask of ale later in the film...but I digress). Those complaints may be true the first time you see it, but when you watch it again, you'll see that every action by the islanders is meant to Spoiler lure Sgt. Howie to the Wicker Man , something I think is given away too much in the so-called "director's cut". It's why I prefer the theatrical cut.
Had to go with Night of the Living Dead. Spoiler The death of the main protagonist was so sudden especially after all he had been through the previous night. Plus the allusions to racism and the documentary-like footage put it over the top as far as the shock factor goes.
Sorry you guys, Sleepaway Camp is the only answer. Nice to see it's winning in a landslide, since it is the only answer and all.
Definitely, SLEEPAWAY CAMP's was the best shocking ending of all times... I couldn't come out easily from my surprise the day I watched it for the first time xD
FINALLY I'm not alone anymore:banana: and I guess I understand the sleepaway camp following, it was a shock. But honestly there was no way anyone could have guessed, going by the shadow of the killer, and the killers appearance etc throughout the film. And well,......Aunt Martha clearly wasn't all there to begin with. Spoiler alert Spoiler The biggest shock was a gay couple having sex in the beginning in 1983 and a GASP penis
The damn sequel to Sleepaway should have been about Aunt Martha!!! Not a brainless, straight man's redux of the first movie.
