Manhunter is fucking fantastic. I thought that movie was going to suck. (Translation: I thought I was going to hate it.) Absolutely adored it. So glad I stuck my neck out for it. I think I'm going to have to sell out though and say: "Free Bird" in The Devil's Rejects. I cried. I don't cry unless there's something worth crying over. I didn't cry for Zombie's Halloween II and that's supposed to be his masterpiece that makes you feel the weight of the characters' post-traumatic stress, etc. Anyway... that happened. Comparatively, I don't remember exactly where "In a Gadda Da Vida" played and how long, etc. The details of the historical former didn't imprint nearly as much upon me.
Really? It played all during the part when Dollarhyde was terrorising the blind girl climaxing at the cop jumping through the glass followed by the shootout. I thought it was very effective use of the music. Here's another one I like from a very different type of film: Can's "Mother Sky" in DEEP END.
The climax of Manhunter, with the police racing towards Dollarhyde's home, is awesome, but every time I watch the movie, I chuckle to myself: "It's the long version of In A Gadda Da Vida - they have plenty of time!"
