I really want to see The Eyes of my Mother. I've heard terrific things.

Ouija: Origins of Evil was a surprise to me. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
The Shallows was an entertaining hour and a half. I dug.

Blair Witch remake, such a disappointment.

Coming up with titles, I realized how many flicks I missed during the last year. I was too busy finding gems from the 80s I've never seen before like Chopping Mall & House on Sorority Row.

I still wanna see Fear, Inc, Trash Fire, Neon Demon, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Lights Out, and Hush.

I'd love to do an official top 10 when I get the time to look through what has been released this year, but to be honest a lot of the later entries would probably just be filler. It hasn't been the greatest year genre wise.

I can safely say Green Room, The Invitation, and The Autopsy Of Jane Doe would be at the top of the list. Favorite non-horror would be American Honey.

If / when I do an official list, I might have to include TV seasons. Ash Vs Evil Dead, American Horror Story, and Scream Queens all had strong seasons this year.

I thought this was a fantastic year for horror films, actually. The VVitch was amazing, so was The Invitation, Green Room, Don't Breathe, Lights Out and 10 Cloverfield Lane. I say it was a great year because those films stood out and were some of the best additions to the genre in years. Of course there was a lot of crap, but they really hit it out of the park with some of them. And that for me makes up for a lot of the crap that came out.

American Horror Story: Roanoke was probably one of the worst seasons yet. I appreciate what they tried to do with it (and I really enjoyed it up until a certain point), but just like EVERY OTHER SEASON it just goes off the fuckin rails. They can't seem to tie ANY story together into a cohesive whole. The only season I think really worked was the first one. Everything else just falls flat. And it's a shame because they come up with a pretty decent concept most of the time. It's like they just get lazy. I dunno, I just felt the latest season was just awful. They totally took it in the wrong direction.

EDIT: what I meant to say was that I liked the direction they took it in, its execution was just sloppy and disappointing.

The sad thing is I cannot think of a single horror flick from '16 to put on the 'best' list. All the ones I watched were ok at best.

I finally caught Green Room which is on many folks favorite list from 2016. I didn't love it. I thought it was a decent suspense flick with some decent blood but overall it wasn't that great in my opinion.

    Worst:

The Conjuring 2 - Is it a comedy or serious horror? No one knows! (hint: it's neither.)
Edge of Winter - dull thriller with mind-numbingly dumb plot.

    Best:

The VVitch - Groovy, atmospheric horror.
Goodnight, Mommy - Fuck you, twins!

    Not That Bad, Actually:

The Shallows - You will believe a bikini can carry a movie.
Southbound - Great ideas that are competently put to film.
The Visit - Maybe the biggest surprise for me. The olds hate the living!
Don't Breathe - Creepy as hell, where everyone is a villain.

I agree 100%. I completely skipped out on this season of AHS for the simple fact I was sick and tired of getting burned. They churn out and bunch of good ideas only to loose track of certain characters or subplots. I won't be sitting through Roanoke, nor any future season for that matter.

Really surprised to see Bone Tomahawk on your "bottom" list, @MorallySound, as it has had strong critical reviews, from what I've read--plus, there's that Kurt Russell facial hair.

I've got it here awaiting a spin.

Bone Tomahawk was OK. It did not live up to it's hype in my eyes, but it wasn't bad either. There is one scene that I would say might be my favorite sequence of the year, however. Fucking brutal is an understatement.

Obviously not horror, per-say.......but I think the best movie for me in 2016 was The Revenant. That movie just goes hard. Real fucking hard. Not sure if it's technically 2015 but I caught it in the theaters in late January 2016.
