Wasn't Train to Busan 2016? It was great, either way. My favorites this year were: Get Out It Happy Death Day Worst were: The Mummy Alien: Covenant And neither here nor there were: Kong: Skull Island Rings Some of those may not be considered strictly horror, but when you watch as few new movies as I do, you need to pad your stats.
It wasn't released stateside until January of this year. I know I'm kind of cheating there but I'm gonna count it.
Best movies: 1. Blackcoat's Daughter 2. Tag 3. Gerald's Game 4. Hell House LLC 5. Creepy 6. Dark Song 7. Raw 8. Get Out 9. Life 10. Girl with All the Gifts Honorable Mentions: Autopsy of Jane Doe, Under the Shadow, Antibirth, Belko Experiment, It Comes at Night, Transfiguration, Creep 2 Worst: Red Christmas, The Darkness
I dunno...I saw it at a film festival in the US in November of 2016, and it wasn't exactly a "premiere", so I think you're pushing it to call it a 2017 movie. It is good though...
The best for me Victor Crowley Get out mother! (Horror? Don't care it was awesome) The Devils Candy Cult of Chucky The Belko Experiment Worst of the worst Jeepers Creepers 3 Alien: covenant It Comes at Night
These are all the "new" horror films I saw in the past year. Some of these might not all be 100% straight up horror films; some are more thriller, a few are sci-fi, but all of these have horror elements. I usually wait until the year is actually over to post a list, but since there's just a few hours left and not much movie viewing in my immediate future, I might as well go ahead. I will say that 2017 has easily been the BEST year for movies in a long time! I feel like I made more trips to the movie theater this year than ever before because there was so much great stuff to see. My Top 10 Horror Films Of 2017: Honorable Mentions: Jigsaw, Victor Crowley, Death Note, Better Watch Out 10.) Super Dark Times 9.) The Belko Experiment 8.) mother! 7.) The Killing Of A Sacred Deer 6.) It 5.) The Babysitter 4.) The Shape Of Water 3.) The Blackcoat’s Daughter 2.) A Monster Calls 1.) Get Out Instead of dwelling on the worst (and believe me, I've seen some duds, mostly via NetFlix and Amazon Prime), I'm going to post my top 10 non-horror films instead. As stated, 2017 was an amazing year for movies, so it seemed better to shout out 10 more great films. Obviously, there would have been some crossover from the horror list, so I've left those out. My Top 10 Non-Horror Films Of 2017: Honorable Mentions: Only The Brave, Good Time, Beach Rats, The Book Of Henry 10.) I, Tonya 9.) Wind River 8.) Logan Lucky 7.) Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri 6.) Brigsby Bear 5.) Call Me By Your Name 4.) Patti Cake$ 3.) Lady Bird 2.) The Florida Project 1.) Baby Driver
Are people already forgetting about Split (worldwide release date: 01/20/2017)? I'm not arguing that it should be top 10 or bottom 10 (though the film tracking thread suggests that at least one of you had strong opinions about it ), but I'm a little surprised that one of the year's top grossing horror films hasn't garnered a single mention, thus far, even as an honorable / dishonorable mention.
I agree that Split was really good, but in a year of strong genre films it was easily edged out. You could say the same for Annabelle: Creation. I wasn't as enthusiastic about that one, but it did over $100 million at the box office and received generally positive reviews. I have yet to see it on a "Best Of 2017" list.
I did not really like Split as I am not a fan of the “split personality” trope which I just find silly. Annabelle Creation was ok but overlong. I’m surprised to see it turn up on lists.
I am really far behind on current releases, but from this year I did really enjoy these: Get Out A Cure for Wellness The Babysitter The Void (most of the other that seem to be showing up on everyone's lists I haven't seen yet, but hopefully before 2019 I'll catch up to them)
Shit! I forgot about it (mainly because I want to) and it was the 3rd worst horror film I saw this year. Corrected my list and added it quite near the bottom.
Ouch! I was gonna say, you'd better not put that under The Honor Farm. I watched that on Prime about a week or two back, it was a rough 75 minutes to say the least.
Didn’t see many 2017 horrors so will add some horror leaning thrillers Best 1. Split 2. Mother! 3. Gerald’s Game 4. Life 5. Happy death day 6. Get Out 7. Tragedy Girls Worst 1. It 2. Devils Candy 3 Jeepers Crepers 3 4. The Void 5. Cult of Chucky 6. Alien Covenant
