If that's what they go with then yuck. The whole piece of art is far superior.
Hmm....I didn't know Don did the transfer. Is it possible that the movie can't look much better?
If it's anything like the undead commentary on the Return Of The Living Dead Blu, it could also get pretty annoying after a while. I'd love to hear him share some info on the movie, so hopefully Mancuso doesn't stay in character through the whole track.
Maybe. Restorations evolve and gets better every year. But Don May Jr usually goes the extra mile, when it comes to creating new transfers.
Some movies can be made to look like they was shot yesterday, but some (depending on the stock they shot it on, and the equipment they used) just won't look amazing, no matter what they do with the source materials.
I don't know if Anchor Bay did some extra tinkering, like Dark Sky did with Don's "Texas Chainsaw" transfer, but compared to what we got on VHS/LD/DVD, I thought the transfer itself looked pretty damn good. Except for that horrible mess of artifacting etc. But that wasn't a problem with the transfer itself.
IF they use Don's transfer again, I hope they give it a healthy bitrate and huge filesize.
I'm curious if they're going to use Capelight's improved/adjusted transfer (they cleaned up a lot of dirt and damage, but more controversially, zoomed the picture a bit in order to get rid of film jitters). I'm thinking not, but you never know. Definitely have my eye on this one, interested in the new extras for sure; but holding out for more info.
Also that phone cover is lame.

So when is this coming out?
11/24/2015 in Canada. Doesn't look like there'll be a US release.
Where can you order it?
No, I should have said other then Amazon is it available anywhere else?
That's a good question. I haven't seen it on DiabolikDVD or any of the various import sites, yet.
Edit: I can't vouch for this retailer, but it appears they do ship to the US. It looks like they have a better price than Amazon.ca, too.
kinda disappointed there isn't a usa release for this I wonder why? if anchor bay usa branch doesn't have the rights or what?
Any of you canucks have the new disc yet? How does it look?
It's gonna cost me around $35 to import, so it damn well better be worth it.
I picked it up today but of course I get the "failed to play blu Ray disc" error on my blu-ray drive. I'm fucking livid. This is the 4th disc to do this to me now and I don't know why it's happening. I only have a blu-ray drive so now I have no way of playing it.
It's a nice package though. Slipcase, booklet. Too bad I can't get it to play.
That's weird... what brand/model of Blu-ray player do you have? Is the firmware up to date? If it's the 4th disc you've had the problem with, it sounds more like a player issue.
It looks like mine is shipping today from Amazon.ca
That's what I thought too. I have a Samsung SE-506CB - F/W TS01. I'm not sure how to update it though. I found one website that has an update but the only one I can find is from June 2014. And it keeps freezing when I try to update it. I'm using a MacBook Pro btw. OSX El Capitan.
Lo and behold, it's a fucking Christmas miracle! My disc somehow managed to work, so I took some screenshot comparisons between the new Anchor Bay blu-ray and the German Capelight blu-ray.
My conclusions: It's definitely the same transfer, except slightly (and I stress slightly) better encoded. I can't check the file size of the actual film, but the disc is 41.06 GB so I can only assume the film is now larger than the 12 GB transfer on the US disc. There is definitely more visible grain (hence more fine detail) and this release seems to push reds more. It also seems to now be slightly darker than the other two blu-rays in some shots. The Capelight, though, seems to have been really tinkered with. Notice how in a couple of the caps, corners of the frame look darker than the new release, and some stay about the same. It actually does look good in-motion, though. However, I think the Anchor Bay Canada disc is the best of the three.
So there's six comparisons between the new Anchor Bay disc and the Capelight disc and a seventh between the new release and the Critical Mass US release (a shot I matched from caps-a-holic).
