My vote goes to Black Christmas. I had a lot more fun with that one than I did with Halloween. Black Christmas, despite its faults, really captured the Christmas atmosphere really well. It was beautifully photographed and made use of a very strong color palette, particularly heavy on the reds and greens. While neither film is very suspenseful, Black Christmas held my interest throughout. Towards the end, I became bored with Halloween - which didn't capture the Halloween setting much at all. Danielle Harris was the only thing I really liked in Halloween, but even she's no match for Lacey Chabert - who was horribly underused in Black Christmas. (She should have been the heroine.) My thoughts anyway. Yours may differ.
For all my complaints with the new Halloween, I still thought it was a decent flick. Black Xmas, however, was a disgraceful turd, IMO.
Let me see, I think Black Christmas is the worst of the recent remakes and I think Halloween is in the Top 3 or 4 after Hills, Dawn and possibly the Ring. So Yeah It's Halloween for me.
I actually enjoyed Black Christmas. It wasn't scary, it was more of a black comedy, but it was lots of fun up until the lame ending. Though Spoiler I kept expecting Buffy to show up and save Dawn from the murderer . I had more fun with BC so I voted for it. Halloween was good but I just didn't get involved with it, except for a couple of scenes.
I'd say The Fog (2005) is the worst of the recent remakes. Based on an actor's performance, Psycho (1998) is pretty bad too. Not because Vince Vaughn is a bad actor, but because he isn't Anthony Perkins. Psycho '98 was doomed to fail from the beginning. Thanks for contributing to the discussion. Oh wait. You didn't contribute anything at all. Thanks for nothing, I guess. If you don't like either film, don't even bother posting.
The Fog was bad but harmless bad. Black Christmas just made me feel like they didn't even bother trying or even saw the original.
I'm going to see Halloween today so I can't vote yet... But I did enjoy the Black Xmas remake. It felt like a fun little slasher film.
Regarding Black Christmas (2006), is the alternate cut of the film that was released in the UK and other places available to purchase (legally) on Region 1 NTSC DVD?
I voted for Black Xmas. I didn't hate Halloween but I wasn't wowed by it either. Black Xmas just had a few more elements that I enjoyed.
Voted for Halloween. Black Christmas remake was okay, but doesn't hold a torch to the original, and Rob Zombie's Halloween was so much better, and with each movie Zombie directs, they actually, in my opinion, get better and better.
You know, I haven't seen the Halloween remake yet (going this weekend), but from what I've heard, I don't imagine I'll like it at all. I can't say I'm a fan of Zombie or his faux-grindhouse style. Black Christmas was fun, cool and didn't take itself seriously. I'm not saying that not being serious is a virtue when it comes to horror films, but in this case it certainly was.
