Halloween gets my vote as it's just a better movie. This is not to say I didn't enjoy BXmas because I did, enough so to dub it even.
Actually, the Unrated DVD is just an unrated version of the US cut. It adds some gore back here and there and extends a few scenes but, for the most part, it's the US cut. Spoiler Melissa (Michelle Trachtenberg) still dies via an ice skate to the top of the skull. Also, the ending is the same with Billy chasing Kelli through the hospital and winding up impaled on a Christmas tree. However, all of the footage from the European cut can be found in the Special Features. Melissa's alternate death is in the Deleted Scenes section and the UK ending is Alternate Ending #2.
Halloween (2007) gets its Blu-ray release next week (Oct. 21). So where is the announcement for Black Christmas (2006) on BD?
The little bits and pieces I've seen of Black Christmas sucked... terribly. Of the 3 versions of Halloween that exist the workprint is by far the best one. Since I find that to be more watchable than Black X-mas, it'll get my vote.
Halloween wasnt really very good although I didnt hate it like a lot of people. Black Christmas on the other hand was just awful- I could hardly sit through it and hit fast forward more than once. Easy choice for me.....
Both films ARE pretty bad. The Black Christmas remake is the worse of the two, though - it completely fails to match the style and suspense of the original, coming off as cheap and charmless. Zombie over-explains everything and kills the mystery, but at least there are isolated scenes in his film that are effective - hence, I have to go with Zombie's Halloween.
I've only seen Halloween once and Black Chirstmas about three times already. BC slowly grew on me with each viewing. Maybe I need to watch Halloween a couple of times more or so, but I voted for Black Christmas anyway.
Halloween. The Black Christmas remake was okay, but not as good as the remake of Halloween. I actually enjoyed Rob Zombie's take on this film. Having read several posts on different threads, I know I am in the minority, but I like what he did with the character development of young Michael. It was a nice change of pace.
Rob Zombie's Halloween wasn't that bad at all. In fact, it wasn't really bad at all. Was it good? Not really. Black Christmas 2006 sucked. A LOT!
Black Christmas is just ludicrous fun where as Halloween was a horribly misstep of an ugly over explained mess
I wasn't into Halloween at all, though it wasn't bad, just not what I wanted. I love the Black Christmas remake A LOT.
Man: Rob Zombie should sue whoever trimmed down his director's cut of Halloween. And this is coming from someone who knows well how low the bar around here has been dropped so that the millennium could pass as a decent time for this genre.
