I apologize if there is another thread on this topic, as I could not locate it.
I have seen neither of these films and figured this new Blu-Ray release would be a good opportunity. Especially with Halloween soon to be upon us.
Any thoughts? How are Kino's releases in terms of quality? The American versions vs the original Italian ones? Differences? Which are superior?
    Thank you.

The American version has Karloff's real voice. Also the stories are arranged differently in the American version.
Hard to choose for me between the two, but the American version wins it by a hair (again, for me).

Whoah, I'm pretty sure I'll be picking up both of those since I never upgraded either from the old DVD. The American version of Black Sabbath is the one I saw on TV as kid, so it's my sentimental favorite. The Drop of Water segment scared the bejesus out of me.

Actually now that I think of it, I imagine Kino will eventually release a box set somewhere down the line since it appears they have the rights to both versions of both films.

*Edit- I just looked it up on Amazon and realized it's a double feature disc. I'll definitely be picking it up right away.

I didn't realize it was a double feature disc either. I may get this and sell my Arrow releases.

Anthropophagus, I also meant to add that I'm quite surprised you've never seen either of these. Have you seen any other Bava films?

I have seen Baron Blood and liked it quite a lot. I really need to catch up on Bava's films.

My top three favorites of his are Black Sabbath, Baron Blood, and Black Sunday, so this sounds like the perfect opportunity for you to start catching up. Actually now that I think about it, I like most of his stuff- maybe I'll watch Bay of Blood tonight.

I'm waiting on and surprised that Kino hasn't released a Mario Bava box set yet, hopefully including both cuts of this film.

I'd like to wait for a box set too, considering I never picked up the Euro version Blu's of either. I've got an itchy trigger finger on this one though.

So anybody know what happened with this release? I just looked on Amazon and it's not available for pre-order anymore.

I know - I saw it was deleted from my watch list. I'm looking forward to it.

Apparently there is an audio synch error during the Boris Karloff segment of Black Sabbath, at least some early reviews have said so.
