Simply the worst/best/funniest/most white-trash film ever made in the history of cinema. Pleeeeease tell me some of you have seen this one. For those of you who haven't, not seeing this is cheating yourself on one of life's most rewarding experiences. The film was made by a bunch of (drunken?) redneck white trash twentysomethings back in 1987. Even though it's shot on what looks to be VHS or maybe really shitty BETA, it was somehow picked up and distributed by United Entertainment, where it then found its way onto a few video rental shelves throughout the country. Now... I've seen it all - but this one makes Hellspawn look like Citizen Kane. Yeah, that sounds blasphemous but it's true. Blood Lake is the gem of all gems. I pray that it someday gets released on DVD.

Fellow fans have left some good reviews here:

I've never witnessed this movie, but yes, I think everyone here at least knows about how terrible it is. I'd definetly want to give it a look, but I also do not want to purchase it. I've seen some of the VHS copies sell on EBay for $1-$2, hehe.

I have this movie on vhs, and yes it's total crap, it did make me laugh because it was so terrible though. The killer was the least scary guy I've ever seen in a slasher movie.

I also have Blood Lake on VHS. It's really terrible, but fun to watch sometimes. It was shot on some sort of cheap video format, similar to The Last Slumber Party. Probably the same financiers, since it was also out on United Entertainment.

The sad thing is...Blood Lake is still better than most of the DTV shit they keep churning out these days. :eek2:

Alright, the Terror at Tenkiller thread made me wanna watch this again, so here I am. So terribly fun.

Man there's a lot of cheesy sleeveless 80's shirts and incomprehensible mumbling

I rented this with a group of friends back in the late 80s. We made it to the end so something must have been worthwhile. I distinctly remember waiting for tits and not getting any, as well as a 13 year old creepy kid who keeps dropping perverted remarks to any female within range. I remember the "dry" ending too. I need to revisit this.

I had the misfortune of experiencing this "film" once. I was not able to make it past the first, FIRST, fifteen consecutive minutes of waterskiing. I count this among the worst I have ever seen.

I don't understand the ending. Why did they drain the blood lake? Were they looking for bodies?

    From Facebook:

***NEW TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT*** AGFA has CONFIRMED that their NEW RESTORATION of Tim Bogg’s 1987 Slasher Film “Blood Lake” is coming to Home Video in 2019!!! More info as it surfaces! Thanks to the good people at AGFA for confirming the good news!

I imagine it will be DVD only, as I'm pretty sure this was shot on video.

Yeah, since it's in partnership with Bleeding Skull, it'll be DVD since it's SOV, much like their upcoming release of Ninja Zombie.

Refresh my memory, is this the one where they bring along the little brother who is like 12, and he's the hornest 12 year old ever? I remember he spends the entire movie trying to get into another 12 year old's pants and I'm like WTF am I watching?

yeah, the little bro with the blonde mullet trying to put the moves on with the other pre-pubescent girl.

    "Oh shut up little Tony."

"Yeah they must have 'did it' last night. She definitely knows Tony."

Great news - haha! I’ll buy in to help the cause and relive this 80’s nostalgic backwoods cheese!

I’ll have to sell my VHS which I procured on eBay some time ago. I recall someone found a box of new ones or the original company did a small re-release - definitely not a bootleg.

I can't believe I've never seen this one. I just ripped a copy from YouTube that I'll watch in the near future. Just when I thought I saw every 80's slasher, along comes BLOOD LAKE.

Oh it's a hoot to watch. Just don't go into it with expectations that it'll be a good slasher or anything... but it's immensely fun 80's SOV cheese. I love it!

I just watched it. It's not bad if you're in the mood for watching 80's teens act like 80's teens. The horror aspect isn't so great, but in all it isn't too bad. Quick review: http://splattercritic.com/2019/01/blood-lake/
