Dude, if Anchor Bay has it now, it will never come out, they will try to remake it first! Anchor Bay is no longer a cult label.

Finally tracked down both the DVD and uncut VHS. I'm really surprised this gem doesn't get more run with the slasher fans. Even the moderately neutered Legacy DVD release, titled NIGHTMARE AT SHADOW WOODS, is wildly entertaining. It has everything a slasher film needs. A delightfully insane killer, memorable catchphrases like "That's not cranberry sauce", and entertaining kills. The kills and sleaze are expertly paced and the uncut Blood Rage VHS contains some of the best kills you'll find in any slasher. The VHS can be a bit dark and added some unneeded story elements so its tempting to make a composite of the extended kills and the Legacy DVD for my eventual re-visit of this film. If you are a slasher fan, track down NIGHTMARE AT SHADOW WOODS. Don't let the 1987 date alarm you, it was filmed in 1983 and it shows. It's one the best the genre has to offer.

Not sure if I'm allowed to ask this, but does anyone know where I can view the additional scenes from the Nightmare At Shadow Woods version online? I own the Prism Blood Rage VHS, so I am just curious in seeing the added swimming pool scene near the beginning. I don't want the whole movie.

I'd also love to see the uncut gypsy flashback from The Prey, if anyone knows where I can find that one.

You mean the girl in the shower? It's the same shower scene from later in the film but crudely spliced in after the pool scene as well.

No, I guess there is a scene at the beginning after the football game where you see them all at the pool. I found pictures of it online:

That scene does not happen in the VHS. Though it sounds like the Nightmare At Shadow Woods DVD is missing a lot of gore (including the head splitting open) and the scene where the mother goes to visit her son in the mental institution.

That's interesting. Seen the Blood Rage version. Never knew there were alternate scenes.

I have both versions. I've always wanted to compile them as I definitely like the extended gore in the uncut version, but there are scenes in the uncut version I think are a hindrance to the story. So if I can find the time, I'll make a fan edit.

MorallySound - that'd be rad. Send me a PM if you ever get around to it. Looks like a fun movie but I don't want to buy a heavily edited DVD.

Finally found part of the missing footage on YouTube. Kind of a worthless scene, but would still love to see the rest.

Why has no one released this on a legit DVD or Blu-ray?

Would love to see a better version of this!

I'm not sure if this is the kind of film that Shout would want to tackle, but man I'd love to see them do an uncut Blu of this.

Yeah, no kidding. I'd be stoked if somebody would release it uncut.

Once Night Warning comes out in July, this will be my most anticipated 80s slasher not yet (really-ish) on DVD.

We also need Fatal Games, The Prey, Terror On Tour, Silent Madness and Blood Frenzy badly.

I would love to see any of those titles finally get a decent release (DVD and/or BD).

Let me also add: To All a Goodnight, House of Death (aka Death Screams), The Slayer, Edge of the Axe, Hide and Go Shriek, and Iced.

Oh! How could I forget To All a Goodnight, House of Death, The Slayer or Hide and Go Shriek? Wow.

Edge is not bad, but suffers from the same problems Savage Lust does. There should be a Larraz boxset with those two and Rest in Pieces.

lol Iced... May need to give that a shot again.

Also: The Mutilator, Ghost Dance, Honeymoon Horror, Next of Kin, Blood Beat, Body Count, Blood Tracks, Return of the Family Man and Unmasked: Part 25.

And Dear Dead Delilah from 1972. Brownrigg's Scum of the Earth is coming at least.

Even though not really that obscure, but for some reason I think this is something Vinegar Syndrome or Slasher // Video could release on Blu-ray. Any company would be fine by me however.

I own a 35mm print of Nightmare at Shadow Woods, and VS knows I have it. But no discussion as of yet.

Does it contain the uncut gore footage?

I honestly would need to project it again, I haven't seen the print since 2008, which was the first time I saw the film so I can't remember if it was or not... I've seen both the cut DVD though and the the uncut VHS, but the print does wear the title of Nightmare at Shadow Woods.
