Don't Torture A Duckling is the only one of those titles that's in need of a new transfer in my opinion. I like the grainy look of COTLD and it's hard to imagine it can look much better. I guess I'm satisfied with Deep Red and Inferno.

They were supposed to be re-mastering Argento's titles, not just re-releasing them. Which means we won't see a remastered Deep Red for along time to come, until BU lose their rights.

This is not Rocket Science, it's pretty simple how unfortunate this is looking for all of us. :eek2:

Deep Red doesn't need to be remastered... the AB DVD still looks fantastic. Actually, it is probably one of the best transfers for a Euro Horror film that I've ever seen. BU (or anyone else, for that matter) couldn't possibly improve upon it.

It would be nice to see a good version of the theatrical cut of the film, though. And I agree with Regurgitate-- Don't Torture a Duckling is in dire need of remastering. AB's transfer for that one was pretty lackluster, but all of their Argento titles looked marvelous, even the non-anamorphic ones.

There were various rumors circulating a while back that they would be remastered, new special features, etc.

It sounds like they were just that however...rumors.

I figured as much. I knew it couldn't be from Blue Underground themselves, because they never update their damned site! The last item on their news page is from February.

The only two Argento's that I felt could look better were Tenebre and Phenomena. Opera looks like it was filmed yesterday, besides the 80's fashions.

There's something wrong with almost every AB Argento release (including Card Player and Ti Piace Hitchcock).
The only few I think are good enough are Cat O' Nine Tails,Inferno and Opera.

I think Tenebre and Phenomena still look great, despite the fact that they're non-anamorphic and Tenebre is missing a few seconds of footage due to print damage. In fact, they may be two of the best non-anamorphic transfers I've seen. They could probably benefit from some work, though.

I spoke with BU personally over at Comic-Con 2005.

They said they would be doing the Argento re-masters, but they were in the early stages. It's been said numerous times over these few years..

CP is right, almost all of Argento's DVDs released from AB, have had some sort problems. Some small, OTHERS BIG. Most of them I don't mind to much about, but some really need some change. It's one of the main reasons why I've held off from purchasing some of these.

The ending - instead of the freeze-frame - in Deep Red
    The soundtrack in Suspiria

    Here, there's two titles.

Here's a comparison for Shock between the AB and the French version.First thing you'll notice is they used an Italian print. Also there's more information on the Italian print,AB's disc is zoomed in.
Seems the French DVD is the winner here. It's brighter, has better colors and shows more detail:

Well I mean one thing I noticed is that it doesn't say they aren't being remastered. So maybe they just didn't feel a need to put in the blurb, or that could be a pipe-dream. Either way, City of the Living Dead as well as a few others are mine.

If you want an inferior transfer, then that COTLD is ALL yours.

The Noshame Italian release is the the sharpest and better transfer.

    Check out DVDmaniacs for more.
