[/IMG] My family has a tradition called Commando Christmas where we all play a drinking game to Commando. Here is a flyer we used when it started. Good times
Workshed, I'll have to look up the drinking rules, but it's just silly stuff, like take a drink every time "Val Verde" is mentioned or anytime Cindy freaks out. Mostly goofy shit that makes us laugh. Here is an invitation video I did a few years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8fyrCK7PPc&feature=youtu.be
I've gone through Black Christmas, Tales from the Crypt, Christmas Evil, To All a Goodnight, and Silent Night Deadly Night, already. I'm going to try to squeeze The Legend of Hell House in on Christmas Eve. It's not especially "festive," but the events in the film take place on the days leading up to and on Christmas Eve and Christmas.
The original Black Christmas and Gremlins for me before Christmas - then Christmas Eve and Christmas I watch the nice traditional stuff <:
I've watched BLACK CHRISTMAS and GREMLINS from my collection, but can anyone recommend some obscure Christmas-themed horror on YouTube? Something not on DVD or blu? I'm in the mood for something I haven't seen a dozen times. Thanks in advance!
I would highly recommend Elves, if you haven't seen it. It's great fun in a Troll 2 / Hellgate kind of way. I'll probably be watching my VHS tonight. Mom and Deadly Dreams have a little bit of Christmas in them, but neither movie feels especially festive.
Even though it's available on DVD, there's also Family Reunion, a little seen Christmas horror flick from the late '80s. Unfortunately, it's not very good. The DVD is long out of print (it was released on DVD by Image back around the same time they did Night Screams and Necromancer), but you can still find it for extremely cheap. So it's not exactly obscure, but I don't know anyone else who has ever seen it.
I have the Family Reunion DVD... bought it probably 14 years ago or so. It's not great, but I liked it... haven't watched it in a long time though.
I watched the Film Chest transfer of Silent Night Bloody Night and thought it looked pretty damn good. I love this flick the more and more I watch it. Time for Black Christmas and then off to bed!
No viewings for me this Christmas, but one of the gifts that I gave my soon to be sister-in-law was the Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 1 & 2 double feature. I wasn't sure how into horror she was but went with it since I figured I could get away with it if she wasn't since they were, technically, "Christmas movies" and was happy to hear her say that she was just telling my brother how she wanted to try and find some kind of Christmas horror movie to watch that night! I was even happier to hear them quoting the first movie not long after I arrived home! :]
Tonight I'll be digging into some of the Shout Factory discs I got at the recent sale. Thinking Evilspeak at least. Last night I watched the Blu of Black Christmas, another recent acquisition. You know, the only way I've ever watched Black Christmas is on Laserdisc, which I bought way back in 1999 (it was one of the last catalog LD titles produced). I never got around to getting any of the DVDs, which is odd since I watch it every year, and every year I complain that the LD looks like ass. I was prepared for a revelation with the Blu Ray, and honestly, it was granier and less defined than the LD!!! Man, what a disappointment...
Was up at two in the morning while everyone else was sleeping so I popped in Horror Rises from the Tomb. Saw it in the middle of a winter's night years ago so it was nice to see it again that way.
Christmas Eve I sat down with my parents and wife and screened Death Hunt. I told them it was Christmas-themed because there is a lot of snow. Blu Ray picture quality wasn't that great but I won't complain...the movie is still excellent. Then for xmas I got the Twilight Time release of The Mechanic so hoping to screen that tonight.
Yeah, I watched it last night, too. Blu looks pretty rough, but it's still way better than the non anamaphoric DVD I used to have. Did you notice any blurry vertical lines in certain scenes? One scene where I really noticed them was when Billy goes ape shit in the attic and starts making a mess. I thought it was burn in on my LED at first, but it's not. I'm guessing it's some kind of film damage in the print OR I got a bad disc...
Just found out about this over at Blu-Ray.com... http://www.ghoulishgary.com/black-christmas-40th-anniversary-poster/ Will this classic finally get the release it deserves?
